It’s Friday, and here on No Rerolls that means it’s time for an all-new 5 on Friday. We’re going to start with 5 exciting releases for this week before moving on to our usual digest of some of our favourite articles from the past week. Of course, we’re slow readers, so don’t be surprised if there are some articles that are a little older – these are just some of the great articles we happen to have actually read in the past week.
Releases & Previews
Every week there are many games, books, and miniatures released. This will probably be a mix of previews, preorders, and releases, and with release dates being the way they are in this industry, it’s always pretty approximate. Excuses out of the way, here are 5 of the releases that caught our attention this week:
Games Workshop releases Ushoran for the Flesh-Eater Courts – behold, the Summer King arrives! Ushoran is being released, and he is, as I have previously stated, a gorgeous lad:

Majestic! Of course, I’ll instead be putting together some sort of print or diorama for my one. That said, I can’t wait to see Ushoran across the table when playing against two of my regular opponents, both of whom play FEC. It’s quite early in 2024 to already have the mini of the year…

Osprey releases Tomorrow City, a Dieselpunk roleplaying game – Another interesting offering from Osprey, the prolific purveyors of incredibly specific RPGs and miniature games. This one is written by Nathan Russell, creator of games such as Gunframe, Dungeon Blitz, and Neon City Overdrive.

As a theme/style, I enjoy Dieselpunk. I love games like Bioshock, and films like Metropolis; both the unparallelled original and the excellent 2001 anime film. The game promises a dice pool system, which is an immediate plus for me. I love dice pool-based games.

The Map Library currently crowdsourcing on Kickstarter – maps! I like a good map, and this Kickstarter campaign (by the creators of the One-Shot Wonders book) promises to give me just that!

At its core, this is a big bundle of over 70 maps for use in roleplaying games. Here are a few examples of the sorts of maps that are included in the bundle:

There are both digital and physical options and the price isn’t too bad. There’s also the option of including the excellent One-Shot Wonders book alongside the map pack to give you adventures to use alongside the maps. This seems a pretty solid bundle with some really good quality artwork.
Atomic Mass Games releases Yub Nub set for Shatterpoint – Last week, I suggested that Atomic Mass Games was releasing the best ever Shatterpoint set, featuring Leia and the Ewoks. Now, it seems they are also releasing another best ever Shatterpoint set with yet more Ewoks:

These are amazing. They are so cool. There are also some droids in here, but who actually, really, properly, honestly, truly cares about them in comparison? Nobody; that’s who!

Games Workshop releases The Mad King Rises, the fourth Dawnbringers book – the Dawnbringers series continues with the release of the fourth book. The one is all about the Grand Alliance of Death:

I like the new Regiments of Renown that feature in the book. Certainly, there are a couple I’d love to build at some point. The main thing in this book is the inclusion of the rules for multiplayer games with the return of the Triumph and Treachery format.

Blog Posts & Articles
The meat of 5 on Friday, the articles are listed in no particular order, so let’s get into some recommendations:
Dawnbringers 4 The Mad King Rises Review and Model Unboxings – Warhammer Age of Sigmar @ Sprues & Brews – Another solid review from Sprues & Brews. I wasn’t sure there would be anything that really interested me in this book, but the Triumph & Treachery rules and the new regiments of renown are all really exciting!
Ushoran, Mortarch of Delusion Contrast Painting Guide @ Vincent Knotley’s Hobby Blog – To go along with the release of Ushoran, here’s a cool painting guide. I shared this with a friend who has ordered the model, as it’s actually a really nice, concise post with some useful suggestions. I know that GW’s standard scheme sees Ushoran with blue-grey skin, but the red that’s used here actually looks pretty good!
Miniature Monday 2023 retrospective @ Miniature Someday – I suppose that reflecting on one’s painting over the year is one thing, but it seems useful also to reflect, as is done here, on whether and how those miniatures are actually used. It’s good to make progress, but it’s also good to be honest with oneself. This makes for an interesting read and, in all honesty, a worthwhile exercise for many hobbyists.
Xenos Rampant: The Punks @ Wyrd Stones & Tackle Zones – Great minis in this post, and well-painted, too! I always love the little warbands and stuff that this blog puts out. This one has some cool Perry and Copplestone sculpts. Fantastic stuff; thanks for sharing!
Please Stop Using Dice To Track Victory Points @ Plastic Craic – Yeeeah, I’m guilty of this. I did it last night, actually. I do pack a dry-erase scoring sheet, but I keep forgetting to use it. Laziness! Something to work on going forward, for sure.

There have been a few posts since my last 5 on Friday:
- Sharing the saga of Lil Sandwich
- My completed Shard of the Void Dragon
- A Kickstarter-Watch for some really fun 3D-printable miniatures
- A Cyberpunk-themed Humble Bundle
- My completed Verminlord Corruptor
- A Throwback Thursday about Dungeons & Dragons
I got back into painting this week with my Void Dragon and Verminlord being completed. I’m pretty happy with both, particularly the Void Dragon.
In the coming week, I hope to finish my first Stargrave crew, and make some progress on some other miniatures, too.
In terms of purchases, I’ve been good! None! I did get my affiliate money the other day, so that’s likely to change and I’ve been eyeing up some new minis. I’ve also printed off a pair of characters for Woehammer’s slow grow.
Painting, purchasing and printing totals so far this year:
- Purchased: 27 minis
- Printed: 2 minis
- Painted: 62 minis
