It’s Friday, and here on No Rerolls that means it’s time for an all-new 5 on Friday. We’re going to start with 5 exciting releases for this week before moving on to our usual digest of some of our favourite articles from the past week. Of course, we’re slow readers, so don’t be surprised if there are some articles that are a little older – these are just some of the great articles we happen to have actually read in the past week.
Releases & Previews
Every week there are many games, books, and miniatures released. This will probably be a mix of previews, preorders, and releases, and with release dates being the way they are in this industry, it’s always pretty approximate. Excuses out of the way, here are 5 of the releases that caught our attention this week:
Games Workshop releases a new Codex for the Chaos Space Marines – The Chaos Space Marines were my first 40K army, and were the biggest army I ever had for any system. I got rid of it a few years ago, and I’d like to think I’ll return to it eventually. Not just now, though. Never just now.

For many people, now is the right time. A new book represents a pretty good jumping on point. This fleshes out the army, both rulewise, and in terms of background. There don’t seem to be many models coming out with the book, which is disappointing, but at least they’re getting some attention from the studio. Just because “Space Marines” is in their name doesn’t mean they get new stuff regularly!

Need Games releases GM Booklet for Fabula Ultima – Fabula Ultima is the Ennie-winning, JRPG-themed tabletop RPG. I’ve got the book sitting a few feet away form me, and I really like the feel and tone of the game. It’s great to see more content coming out, including this booklet for GMs:

At just 41 pages, this isn’t a weighty tome, but it promises a bunch of new content that expands of chapter 4 of the core rulebook, which is focused on supporting the GM. It seems like much of the advice in the book has arisen from feedback. This is pretty cool, and it should hopefully encouraged further community engagement in the future. A physical edition of the book will be coming later in the year.

Critical Kit releases their Be Like a Cat RPG – Although solo RPGs aren’t really my thing, I can appreciate something that’s cool, quirky, and interesting. Those words all seem to apply to Be Like a Cat:

I don’t know much about this game; it just caught my attention this week. It seems to be about exploring and taking territory, as any cat with dictator-esque aspirations would. Genre-wise, the book has content to support you in playing urban, cyber, pirate, space and ancient Egyptian adventures.
Atomic Mass releases the Make the Impossible Possible Squad Pack for Shatterpoint – Oh, hey, another amazing set of miniatures for Shatterpoint! let’s pretend to be surprised!

Done? Okay. This set contains three miniatures from the Rebels animated series. They all look great. They’ve done a fantastic job of giving Chopper some real personality. Now, give us the rest of the crew!

Modiphius releases Space Sentry miniature for Fallout: Wasteland Warfare – Following on from the Fallout TV Show, and getting back into Fallout 4, I find my eye drawn to Modiphius’ Fallout games. This latest model is very pretty:

He’s a chunky boy, with some cool textures. I love the wheels on the bottom of the lets, and to cool, domed head. This is a fearsome, big, threatening model that represents a real threat to your wasteland crews!

Blog Posts & Articles
The meat of 5 on Friday, the articles are listed in no particular order, so let’s get into some recommendations:
Daily miniature: Plaguecrawler @ Scent of a Gamer – Fantastic Nurgle goodness. This wee chap is happily spreading grandpa’s blessings to all and sundry. This grabbed my attention because it was a kit I’ve been looking at for some conversions that I’ve been planning. Looks great!
Painted Chaos Knight Despoiler @ The Bovine Overlord – Another fantastic mini that grabbed my attention due to conversion planning. I’m really looking forward to doing my own despoiler. This one uses the stock model and looks absolutely great!
3D Roleplay Con IV – Inquisitor Recap @ Torg’s Blog – I loved this writeup, and the pictures that came with it. Inquisitor is a great, interesting, atmospheric game. I’d have loved to play in this demo game.
Writing a Wargame: Part 2 – Command & Control @ Woehammer – I’m enjoying watching this series. It’s cool to see a game take shape in front of our eyes. One to watch! I’ll be giving it a go once it’s done.
Codex Chaos Space Marines (2024) Review – Warhammer 40k 10th Edition @ Sprues & Brews – A solid review of Games Workshop’s latest Codex for Warhammer 40,000. This is a thorough writeup which gives a good overview of the Chaos Space Marines in this edition. I’m so disappointed by the lack of a Bile-centric subfaction, though.

There have been a few posts since my last 5 on Friday:
- Some advice of being a gracious gamer
- Thoughts on the Woehammer Slow Grow
- Plans for a Chaos Knights army
- A B-Movie-themed Bundle of Holding
- 20 completed Infernal Guard
- A Throwback Thursday about Vampire: the Masquerade
It’s been a better week in hobby for me, this week. On the painting front, I’m finally back on the horse! I’ve got my 20 Infernal Guard done and am working on prepping 40 more infantry across the two ToW armies.
I also bought and printed minis this month. First up were another 20 infantry for the slow in the form of handgunners and blunderbusses. I then bought 4 War Dogs and another Knight for the Chaos Knights project.
Painting, purchasing, and printing totals so far this year:
- Purchased: 35 minis
- Printed: 97 minis
- Painted: 178 minis

Thanks, you’re always so kind. I can’t really see myself playing much more with the Knights if I’m honest. We don’t play a lot of 40K, I’m the least interested in it from our group and Knights in such a format seem to feel a bit like a binary gear-check.
