I like it when community-created lay formats catch on and are embraces by the publishers of the original games. We’ve seen it before in video games with DotA, and in Magic: The Gathering with Commander.
The newest format to gain the official nod is Lorcana’s Pack Rush format. This is a cool, quick format for playing the Disney TCG that arose from people filling time between rounds at events.

All you need for this mode is a pair of booster packs per player. These are mashed together to form your deck, ignoring limits on the number of ink colours that can be included in those decks.
- 6 common cards
- 3 uncommon cards
- 2 rare, super rare, or legendary cards
- 1 foil card of any rarity level
There’s also a marketing card in there. Keep those. We’ll get to them.
There are a few new rules at play in this mode. First of all, as I have already mentioned, there’s no limit on the number of ink colours in your deck. There’s also no milling out. Any milling effect would just be too strong when we’re playing with decks of 24 cards. Instead, once you find your deck early, you will shuffle your discard pile and this becomes your deck.
You also start the game with 5 cards in your hand instead of 7. Those two marketing cards that you’ve got are not going to waste, either; they will be your first two ink. That little boost at the start will get you off to a quick start and cut down the number of your cards (already limited in this format) that you’re committing as ink.
There are no rules about sets, so feel to mix and match boosters from different sets if that appeals!
It seems like a fun, quick, cheap format that gets you into the game and also helps you build your collection. Great for new players and established one, alike!
