Wizards of the Coast revealed a lot of stuff this week. It started with their upcoming Final Fantasy set, as well as a bunch of Tarkir stuff, and confirmation of both Spiderman and Avatar sets. We’ve got a pretty good idea of how the year is shaping up, at least as far as our cards are concerned.
The big initial reveal was of the four face commanders that lead the Final Fantasy commander decks:

So, we’re seeing FFVI, FFVII, FFX, and FFXIV represented here. Nice! They all look really fun, and I’m delighted to see my girl, Terra, up front! I’m not the biggest fan of FFX, but I must admit that I love that Tidus artwork. Of the four decks, I’d say that I’m probably most drawn to Y’shtola. She looks fun!
I’m not going to really drill down into the reveals, potential uses for the cards, and other details. I’m not the best person to do that. I’m more interested in just enjoying seeing what’s coming, looking at all of the cool cards and artwork for the characters and creatures that I’ve loved for the many years that I have been of a fan of Final Fantasy as a franchise.
It’s great, seeing new takes on all of my old favourites:

The Tonberry is such a cool, little guy, isn’t he? The Jumbo Cactuar has been the subject of some pretty intense attention over the past week. People are coming up with combo after combo to use with an easy-to-obtain power value of 10,000. The more combos people find, the more I think that he’s going to pretty much be a kill-on-sight card for many people who will worry about how it might be used. I’ll probably look to add it to my own Shroofus Saprolings deck.
I’m looking forward to seeing what else gets revealed in the lead-up to the set’s release in June.
