5 on Friday 07/03/25

It’s Friday, and here on No Rerolls that means it’s time for an all-new 5 on Friday. We’re going to start with 5 exciting releases for this week before moving on to our usual digest of some of our favourite articles from the past week. Of course, we’re slow readers, so don’t be surprised if there are some articles that are a little older – these are just some of the great articles we happen to have actually read in the past week.

Releases & Previews

Every week there are many games, books, and miniatures released. This will probably be a mix of previews, preorders, and releases, and with release dates being the way they are in this industry, it’s always pretty approximate. Excuses out of the way, here are 5 of the releases that caught our attention this week:

Games Workshop releases a new Combat Patrol for the Aeldari – Aeldari! The Eldar were my first 40K army, and they still hold a special place in my heart, even if not my collection. GW are putting out a new combat patrol for the army:

It’s an infantry-heavy list, this! We’ve got some Aspects Warriors in the form of 10 Dire Avengers and 5 Warp Spiders. We’ve then got a Spiritseer and 5 Wraithguard. I’m not sure what qualifies as the current hotness as far as the new Aeldari book goes, but it’s a beautiful set. If I were to do some, I’d like to something Exodite-themed, I think.

The core set for the Daggerheart RPG is up for preorder – Darrington Press is the publishing imprint for Critical Role. I’m not the biggest Critical Role fan, but I do have a lot of time for Ivan Van Normal, who seems to be leading the company. He’s excellent. Daggerheart is their new RPG:

Darrington have released a few games now, plus some RPG supplements and a one page RPG. This is their first full RPG release, and they do seem to be aiming for high production values. It’s a D12-based system aimed at longer campaigns. One worth watching!

Modiphius releases digital edition of their Fallout Factions rulebook – Fallout Factions is the second of Modiphius’ miniatures games in the Fallout setting. It’s the one aimed more at traditional competitive gaming, rather than narrative play. It’s been out for a wee while, but the core book is now available digitally:

I’d like to try one of the Fallout games, but I’m not sure which one. I think Fallout Factions would be the easier sell at club. I just think it feels like the more ‘pick up and play”, rather than Fallout Factions’ focus on matched play.’ of the two options, with a focus on matched play, rather than narrative gaming.

MTG Tarkir Dragonstorm Commander decks available for preorders – Tarkir is coming back! It’s great to see Magic return to a classic plane and many long-term players seem really excited to get back into it.

As part of the release, 5 Commander Decks are coming out; one for each clan. It’s great to see people clamouring to grab the deck for their respective clans and dive into the Dragonstorm.

Digital edition of Vampire: the Maquerade’s Gehenna War sourcebook released on DriveThruRPG – I know there are some real die-hard oldschoolers who will disagree, but this edition of Vampire: the Masquerade is really good. Here’s the latest supplement, now released on DTRPG:

I like that this focuses on the struggles and wars of the elders in an edition where elder vampires have been somewhat pushed aside. It’s good to bring that higher level, ancient intrigue back into the game. That was always a really big selling point for me.

Blog Posts & Articles

The meat of 5 on Friday, the articles are listed in no particular order, so let’s get into some recommendations:

Star Trek Adventures: A Refit, Not a Redesign @ Refereeing and Reflection A good wee overview of the second edition of Star Trek Adventures. I like the focus on what seems to have changed. I always find that aspect of edition changes to be really interesting.

Top Three AoS Lists for Columbus Brewhammer ’25 @ Woehammer Some fun lists! The Troggoth list is pretty much what I’ve been toying with using. The Flesh-Eater Courts list is also cool, and is something I’m almost ar the point of being able to field.

Painted Abomination @ The Bovine Overlord I like the big minis for Marvel Crisis Protocol. This is a nice chunky lad, bold in green. The basing is really cool, too. I love the street signage that’s part of it.

What ARE we doing here? @ Stalker7 I really enjoyed this post. I think that there are many of us that put a lot into our hobby, and I really like the point about having essentially several overlapping hobbies that kind co-exist together.

Tau Expedition @ Wargaming Workshop Whilst I’m not the biggest fan of the Tau, these ones look excellent. The white is clean. The red looks great. The blue skin pops. Love it!

There have been a few posts since my last 5 on Friday:

This week, I finished another 2 miniatures for my Flesh-Eater Courts. It felt good to start making some progress again. Here are the totals so far for this year:

Purchased: 9
Painted: 3

Catch you next week!
