It’s Friday, and here on No Rerolls that means it’s time for an all-new 5 on Friday. We’re going to start with 5 exciting releases for this week before moving on to our usual digest of some of our favourite articles from the past week. Of course, we’re slow readers, so don’t be surprised if there are some articles that are a little older – these are just some of the great articles we happen to have actually read in the past week.
Releases & Previews
Every week there are many games, books, and miniatures released. This will probably be a mix of previews, preorders, and releases, and with release dates being the way they are in this industry, it’s always pretty approximate. Excuses out of the way, here are 5 of the releases that caught our attention this week:
Games Workshop releases Ratlings for Kill Team – Hobbits? In space, you say? Sign me up!

It’s great to see the halflings (Ratlings? Oh, okay…) get some love. Previously, these chaps were released as part of a larger boxed set at the tail end of last year, and they’re now being put out in their own box. Much like with the Halfling Blood Bowl team, these guys are bursting with personality. They look fantastic, even if I don’t know how this edition of Kill Team actually plays.

Bastionland Press releases Mythic Bastionland – This is the latest RPG from Bastionland Press, known for their other games, Into the Odd and Electric Bastionland. This time, we’re jumping into the imagined pasts of both of those games.

This is based on the same streamlined game system as Bastionland Press’ other games, so should be familiar to existing fans. I need to read up on it, because combat seems very different to other games, and very dynamic. Certainly, Into the Odd has been on my interest list for a while. Is it worth looking at this, instead?

Atomic Mass releases Deploy the Garrison set for Star Wars Shatterpoint – The larger models used for Shatterpoint really make the Stormtroopers look great. This scale just allows for more realistic proportions, which is what really strikes me with this set.

It’s a really nice Imperial set, based on Director Krennic from Rogue 1. The troopers all look great, and he is suitably… imperious, as their leader. I’m not sure if this is necessarily the first set I’d go for in the range, but it does look fab.

Thunderglyph Games releases Cat-A-Comb – Honestly, this game mostly caught my attention because it’s in a can:

The game sees players playing tricks and pranks on one another. Cats are placed and moved until your cats sit atop 3 stacks of 3 cats, or on top of all region tiles of the same colour. It looks to be a quick, fun, little game that is presented very well.

Chaosium releases a Keepers’ Guide for Cthulhu by Gaslight – The Victorian era is such a natural fit for Call of Cthulhu. There’s so much scope for weird horror. Chaosium has recently put out the Keepers’ Guide for the setting:

Whilst players will need the Investigator’s Handbook, this is an important companion for those running the game. There are also some scenarios in here to give you some initial games to run and really bring your 1890s-era horror to life.

Blog Posts & Articles
The meat of 5 on Friday, the articles are listed in no particular order, so let’s get into some recommendations:
Daily Commander: Mogis, God of Slaughter @ J.M. Casual Blog – This post grabbed my attention because I am looking at Mogis for inclusion in a group slug deck. He won’t be my commander, but it’s good to read about his uses and synergies in this post.
Do Games Need a Reason to Exist? @ Cannibal Halfling Gaming – Well, that’s a challenging question! The question is addressed thoughtfully and with considerable reflection. Rather than spoil it here, you should click through and give it a read.
Zombicide Ghostbusters Crossover – Venkman, Stantz, Spengler and Zeddemore @ Azazel’s Bitz Box – These look great! The minis themselves are lovely, but the paintjob absolutely does them justice. Fantastic!
Warmachine Shadows & Scum Unboxing and Review – Plastic Starter Set @ Sprues & Brews – Am… am I genuinely considering buying this and jumping back into Warmachine? I am seriously considering giving money to my Steamforged Games, of whom I am notably and regularly critical? Hell, I might just be…
Review: The Horned Rat Companion (WFRP 4e) @ Ill Met by Morrslieb – The Skaven are such a cool part of Warhammer. What I really loved about them is that they were one of the more original parts of the setting, not coming from Tolkien or similar fantasy writers. The review is pretty fair, pointing out both the strengths and weaknesses of the book. It’s a long read, but you should have a good idea by the end of it whether the book is for you or not.
