It’s Friday, and here on No Rerolls that means it’s time for an all-new 5 on Friday. We’re going to start with 5 exciting releases for this week before moving on to our usual digest of some of our favourite articles from the past week. Of course, we’re slow readers, so don’t be surprised if there are some articles that are a little older – these are just some of the great articles we happen to have actually read in the past week.
Releases & Previews
Every week there are many games, books, and miniatures released. This will probably be a mix of previews, preorders, and releases, and with release dates being the way they are in this industry, it’s always pretty approximate. Excuses out of the way, here are 5 of the releases that caught our attention this week:
Games Workshop releases a new Combat Patrol for the Thousand Sons – For those tuning in for my semi-regular updates on the matter, I can confirm that the Death Guard remain the best traitor legion. The Thousand Sons, however, are acceptable. Here’s a new combat patrol for the army:

It’s got your sorcery. It’s got your dusty marines. It’s got your birdmen. For what more could one ask? Sinceriously? I don’t really think this is the best combat patrol. It’s a little heavy on characters. A shaman and a Daemon prince? Hmm, nah, give me more troops so I can buy this in multiples! Great minis, though.

Magpie Games releases their Rapscallion roleplaying game – Magpie Games puts out a fair number of PbtA games. Their latest offering is this pirate-themed games that uses that robust and respected ruleset:

Rapscallion is a fantasy-themed game of piracy on the high seas. It has 9 different playbooks; the little character sheet booklets that are so important to PbtA games. I love the visual art style that Magpie has gone for with this one!

Riftbound, the League of Legends trading card game, to release later this year – Whilst I appreciate that I lept pretty deeply into both Magic and Lorcana, I am not going to do this with Riftbound. It is cool, though.

Honestly, I’m looking forward to this for the art alone! I love the characters of League of Legends, so I’ll be watching this one pretty closely. I might grab a couple of starter decks… is this gonna be dangerous?

Preorders available for MTG’s Spider-Man set – Oh, hey, more Magic. They’re releasing a lot, aren’t they? Honestly, I’m less enthused for the Spider-Man set than I have been for others, but there will no doubt be some cool, interesting cards. I’m just not a huge fan of the theme.

It looks to be a full set, and actually won’t come with Commander decks. We’re looking at the usual spread of Play and Collector’s Boosters, along with the pictured bundle set. There have been a few previews, and I’d expect to see a bit more as we hurtle towards the September release date.

Atomic Mass Games releases a new Rebel Commandos set for Star Wars Legion – Atomic Mass continues to rework their Legion range. It’s nice to see some more dynamic miniatures coming to the game.

These Rebel Commandos, like the Rebel Troopers we looked at last week, bringing more variety to the armies of the Rebel Alliance, particularly when it comes to non-human miniatures. Given the importance of non-humans to the Rebel Alliance, it’s great to see them better represented among that faction’s range.

Blog Posts & Articles
The meat of 5 on Friday, the articles are listed in no particular order, so let’s get into some recommendations:
Small Scenics: Mantic Terrain Crate Wizard’s Tower Portal @ Azazel’s Bitz Box – A simple little terrain piece, this. It’s a nice mini. It’s nicely painted. It’s flexible. This is a terrain piece you could use in all sorts of games and scenarios. Handy one to have!
Latest Steam Tank @ A loft full of lead – This is cool! It’s a simple miniature, and not the most stylised steam tank I’ve seen, but it does look appropriate enough as something the British army would have fielded!
Painted Death Trooper Escort @ The Bovine Overlord – Having just rewatched Rogue One, I was delighted to come across this. It looks great, and does justice to a really cool, iconic Star Wars unit.
My Children Vs The Emperor’s Children @ Convert of Die – Lovely post. The EC minis are really cool. More importantly, massive congratulations to the author!
“I’ll drink the blood from their hearts!” – Khorne Berzerkers @ Twitchy Bristles – Khorne is the least interesting of the Chaos Gods, but that’s easy to forget when you’re looking at such beautifully painted miniatures. Fantastic job on these!

- A review of the Cavalry Charge Commander Deck
- A very yellow painting challenge
- Another 10 finished Crypt Guard
- A video game-themed Throwback Thursday
21 minis finished this wee! Not bad, eh? Happy with most of them, too!
This updates our totals for the year to:
Purchased: 28
Painted: 69
Catch you next week!
