It’s one thing to set resolutions, and quite another to hold oneself to them. I intend to review my progress monthly toward each of the resolutions. Welcome, then, to our roundup for June 2025. Let’s start with a reminder of where we got to last month:

Now, let’s take a look at what sort of progress was made in May.
June Roundup: Painting
This has been another good month for painting. I started off with some more Crypt Horrors for my Flesh-Eater Courts:

I followed this up with some more Flesh-Eater characters, including a Royal Decaptitator, an Abhorrent Cardinal, and my version of Grand Justice Goremayne:

I moved on from the FEC to paint up some Slaves to Darkness that were actually for use in a Regiment of Renown. These were an Ogroid Mymidon and a trio of Ogroid Theridons, painted to math my previously-painted Ogroid Thaumaturge:

Then I moved on to paint another of my Irn Bru-inspired Genestealer Cults characters; this time, a big-brain Benefictus:

It’s been a fair while since I last painted any Gloomspite Gitz, so it was great to spend some time on a Snarlboss and his Wolfgit Retinue:

Speaking of armies that I had not painted for in some time, I then moved on to some Necron characters. I started by painting up a classic, metal Necron Lord before moving on to the limited edition Kamoteph the Crooked mini:

My last miniature for the month saw me return to the Maggotkin! I picked up the plastic Rotbringer Sorcerer some time ago, and it’s great to see him finally get a lick of paint:

And that’s us for the month! I also bought 1 Necromunda miniature and 7 further 40K minis.
Here were the totals from the start of June:
- Purchased: 28
- Painted: 69
Our totals for this month:
- Purchased: 8
- Painted: 20
And, through the power of addition, here are the totals for the year to date:
- Purchased: 36
- Painted: 89
Next up will be a couple of Ogors, a couple of GSC miniatures, and then… I dunno. I’d like to say another 6 Morbheg Knights, but I didn’t enjoy painting my first 6, so motivation might be lacking on that front.
June Roundup: Gaming
With Commander and Lorcana featuring more heavily in my rotation at the moment, and a goal to get more miniature games played, I’ve reduced this year’s target to 30 games. Up to the beginning of May, I had played the following games this year:
- Magic: the Gathering
- Disney Lorcana
- Warhammer: Age of Sigmar
- Apiary
- Architects of the West Kingdom
- 7 Wonders
- Terraforming Mars: Ares Expedition
- Raiders of the North Sea
- Paranoia: The Uncooperative Board Game
- Unstable Unicorns
- Viscounts of the West Kingdom
- Wayfarers of the South Tigris
- Eclipse: Second Dawn for the Galaxy
- Clank! In! Space!
- Clank!
- Warhammer Quest: Blackstone Fortress
- Tiny Towns
- Isle of Skye
- Risk
- River Valley Glassworks
- Shipwrights of the North Sea: Redux
- Necromunda
- Call of Cthulhu
- Century: Golem Edition
- How to Save a World
This month, I’ve added a couple of games to the list:
- Scout
- Dungeons & Dragons
It was a quieter month for gaming, but I got some good games in. Obviously, I got some more How to Save a World under my belt. It ended up being our game of the month. I really didn’t think I’d enjoy it when I first saw it, but it’s really quite excellent.

I also played in a really good game of Call of Cthulhu with my irregular online group. I love Call of Cthulhu, and even if my character gets gored to death by a demonic horse, I can appreciate a good game with good folk.
I also managed to play some Age of Sigmar:
The game was quite swingy. I played with my Flesh-Eater Courts and got off to an aggressive start that unfortunately took my Morbheg Knights off a bit far into one of the corners. They did make their way back over later. They hit hard. Ushoran was also an absolute monster, holding the middle of the board with the help of some other characters. After that first turn, my opponent took the upper hand during the second turn, but I came back with a vengeance and scored a pretty decisive win. Our club is trying to get back into Age of Sigmar, which I’m very much enjoying.
It was also nice to play Scout again:
It’s just such a neat, tight little game. It’s so simple and so easy to break out and get to the table. You can play it with any group. This time, it included new players who picked it up really quickly.
Oh, and I managed to score my first Approach of the Second Sun win:
I’ve only played a handful of games with my Phelddagrif deck. Previously, I’ve won by flooding my opponents with hippos and hurting them for each one I give them. It’s nice to win via one of the other win conditions. I’m currently upgrading the deck to give it some more teeth, and some more likely wincons.
I’m also working on a Hope Estheim lifegain/mill deck. I am hoping I’ll have most of the cards for that in hand by July!
June Roundup: Writing
Not a good month for writing. I’ve been super busy with work and just haven’t had the time. My relaxation time has mostly gone to painting. Here are the reviews I’ve done:
- Murray Hall (novel)
- How to Save a World (board game)
And here were my other wordier, more thoughtful posts, most of which were Magic Monday posts:
- Thoughts on the MTG card, Enlightened Tutor
- Updates to my Chaos Knights guide (and notice of update)
- Debating the pile shuffle
- Bemoaning my current RPG situation
- Thoughts on the MTG card, Grand Arbiter Augustin IV
- Talkin’ about MTG’s graveyard
- Thoughts on the MTG card, Coalition Victory
I’m hoping to get some more reviews out in the coming month. I might try to queue some up for when I’m on holiday in late July/Early August.
