5 on Friday 29/08/25

It’s Friday, and here on No Rerolls that means it’s time for an all-new 5 on Friday. We’re going to start with 5 exciting releases for this week before moving on to our usual digest of some of our favourite articles from the past week. Of course, we’re slow readers, so don’t be surprised if there are some articles that are a little older – these are just some of the great articles we happen to have actually read in the past week.

Releases & Previews

Every week there are many games, books, and miniatures released. This will probably be a mix of previews, preorders, and releases, and with release dates being the way they are in this industry, it’s always pretty approximate. Excuses out of the way, here are 5 of the releases that caught our attention this week:

Games Workshop releases a new Battletome for the Nighthaunt – More death armies for Age of Sigmar! The Nighthaunt release got paired with the Flesh-Eater Courts for a real bonanza of undead goodness:

One of my regular opponents plays Nighthaunt, so I look forward to getting beaten down by these ghosts as they rudely ignore my rend. It’s an army that I like conceptually, and I love their character models very much. I’m less a fan of their infantry, but overall, it’s a cool force.

Ravensburger releases Collection Starter Set to release alongside Fabled expansion for Lorcana – Y’all know I like my Lorcana. With the rotation now coming into the game, it’s cool to see Fabled being the first set to really feature reprints as a feature to keep some card game-legal. This pack is being released alongside Fabled:

It’s a nice mini-binder with some cool artwork. You also get four Fabled boosters and a promo card. The promo card is a big plus for me, because I love that version of Tinkerbell. Actually, that is the art that features on my favourite playmat that I use for most of my games of Lorcana and Magic!

The Army Painter releases an Introductory Set for their new range of SpeedPaint Markers – Huh, interesting. I don’t know what to make of these:

Looking at the pictures on The Army Painter’s website, the concept looks cool. I’m keen to see some video reviews of these pens, especially if they do metallic versions. Yeah, I’m watching these closely.

Corvus Bellie to release Song of the Dormant, a battlepack for Warcrow – Warcrow continues to be pretty. It’s always pretty. We all love pretty miniatures, and Corvus Belli produces them consistently. Here’s a new pretty battlepack of pretty miniatures:

The Feudom miniatures are really cool, but what I absolutely love are the Yaldabaoth miniatures in this set. The Intacts really dial up the body horror, and the character sculpts are gorgeous.

Free League releases Coriolis: The Great Dark – I love the look of this. Coriolis: The Great Dark promises to reinvent the sci-fi RPG landscape with a haunting, expeditionary tone that trades the bustling civilizations of its predecessor for a dying outpost clinging to survival. Set in the crumbling asteroid-metropolis of Ship City, players become Explorers; delvers of ancient ruins, seekers of lost technologies, and navigators of the eerie Slipstream. The game draws inspiration from 19th-century expeditions and pulp archaeology, blending deep-sea dread with cosmic wonder. It’s not just about surviving the Blight; it’s about chasing the unknown, even when it stares back.

Where The Third Horizon wove religion into political intrigue, The Great Dark shifts the focus: here, power games unfold in the shadows of forgotten relics and enigmatic ruins. The setting trades spiritual tension for a layered mystery; one where political maneuvering is inseparable from the act of exploration itself. Every expedition is a gamble, every ruin a riddle, and every choice a step deeper into the dark. I’m dead keen!

Blog Posts & Articles

The meat of 5 on Friday, the articles are listed in no particular order, so let’s get into some recommendations:

My top MtG arts 1-10 revisited @ Scent of a Gamer Oh, fun post! Some great picks here, too. Numbers 10 and 7 would probably make it into my top 10, as well.

Brambletrek Journal #3 – Hunger Strikes @ Rysaer Inc. This ongoing series is a lot of fun. You should go and check it out. It almost makes me want to dip into solo games, myself! In all seriousness, I’m looking for a couple of them that I can try out and maybe write up for the blog as I do so.

Unboxing Video: Red Dust Rebellion from GMT Games @ The Players’ Aid This game is really appealing. Given the non-historical theming, it might also stand a bit more chance of making it onto the table at club than has been the case for other COIN games.

RPGaDAY2025 – Day 23 – Recent – Printing a Traveller map @ Polyhedral Nonsense I love when folk do stuff like this, and make a big ol’ map for their campaign. It helps to have something physical to plop down onto the table and really get a sense of what’s what and, of course, what’s where. Very cool.

Of Ranks and Flanks – Kings of War @ True Line of Sight There was a time, not that long ago, that I really considered jumping into Kings of War. I still find myself really tempted by the Halflings. This is an interesting post, from the point of view of someone who jumped over to The Old World and is looking at a return to KoW.

There have been a few posts since my last 5 on Friday:

We got 21 miniatures finished this week. That brings our totals for the year so far to:

Purchased: 56
Painted: 150

Catch you next week!
