Excited for the Maggotkin Refresh Reveal

The latest previews are in, and it’s a good time to be a follower of Papa Nurgle! Well, it’s perhaps not the best of times, financially… The reveals are a mixed bag of things that I was hoping for, and others that are a surprise.

First up, as a surprise, we’ve got Festus making a return. He’s had quite a glow-up and comes with a new buddy:

This is a great miniature. Putting aside the mount, which is a new element, he retains the main elements of the old miniatures. He’s girthier, too. Just a fantastic mini that I can’t wait to add to my army!

My own Festus will likely be rebased into being a Rotbringer Sorcerer:

I’m sure he’ll be happy to step aside for his newer, bigger incarnation.

Next up, let’s look at another update. This time, it’s the turn of the core, armoured troops of the Maggotkin, the Putrid Blightkings:

These lads are interesting. They’re a lot less cartoony than the old miniatures. They’re more consistent in their armour and equipment. They all feature those fetching horns. Yeah, these are a good update.

To compare them with the old miniatures, here are my Putrid Blightkings:

I think the more minimal armour on the new Blighkings will go well with my colour scheme.

We then have some smaller boys. These Rotswords seem to be our lighter troops:

I mean, they’re find. They have a little more of that ramshackle look that the old Blightkings had, and I love the command miniatures. These are probably the least impressive miniatures in this reveal, and I still really like them.

Next up, we gots us some cavalry:

Fantastic. I love them. They’re great. They are chunky. The horses are really corrupted and diseased. I love the robes. The whole kit just looks amazing. I’ll take them! I do love our fly-mounted cavalry, but it’s great to see some classic horse-based cavalry in here, too. Really strong sculpts, these.

Next up are the guys that I am actually most excited for. Behold, the Pestigors:

As a concept, I love Pestigors. I loved the old miniatures. I assumed Pestigors would come eventually, and it’s great that they’re here, now. I would have liked them to keep their threadbare, damaged robes that they had before. It’s a tad disappointing that they aren’t keeping those, but I still like these a lot. Are they the miniatures I am most excited for in here? Nah. They are the unit I’m most excited for, though.

Finally, this refresh is coming alongside a new Warhammer Quest game. In that game is a bunch of miniatures that will have rules in the new Maggotkin of Nurgle Battletome. Here are those minis:

Amazin. Utterly stunning. I’m so happy that I’ll get to use these in my army. I can see early next year seeing me essentially do a whole new army-worth of Nurgle minis.

Exciting times for followers of the most loving of Chaos Gods!

  1. That Festus model looks amazing. I’m not a Maggotkin fan, but have always enjoyed seeing what horrors the studio comes up with for them, and they’ve definitely delivered here!
