5 on Friday

It’s Friday, and here on No Rerolls that means it’s time for a little digest of some of our favourite articles from the past week.  Of course, we’re slow readers, so don’t be surprised if there are some articles that are a little older – these are just some of the great articles we happen to have actually read in the past week.

They are in no particular order, so let’s get into some recommendations:

Santorini Board Game Review @ Dualist Gaming – Santorini interests me and I’ve been reading a fair few reviews of it recently.  This is a good one. It’s well written and contains a lot of pictures.  Good stuff!

What Did I Play This Week (I Swear These Will Be Weekly 🙁) @ Flooboo Blog – The title of this article reveals a writer after my own heart.  This weekly roundup is the sort of thing I need to get into the habit of producing.  I like that the accounts of specific games are quite substantial.

Food Chain Magnate: Introductory Game Review @ The Games Table – Another great review for another great game that I am interested in.  This review gives a really good overview of the game, praises the production quality and addresses the weight of the game, which I’ve heard can be intimidating.  A good, positive review is meant to make you really want to try or buy the game.  In this case, mission accomplished.

Twisted checkers – Diagonal, Corner, One-way and Giveaway Draughts @ Bona Ludo – Checkers is not really my thing, but it’s interesting to read about different variants of the familiar, old game.  This is actually part of a longer series about checkers variants, all of which make for interesting reading.  I suppose that seeing how much can be done with a handful of pieces, a board and the same core game really intrigues me.

Daimyo Dash @ Space-Biff – Another great review.  This time, it’s all about GMT’s Sekigahara.  I like how this is written, as it really shines with genuine enthusiasm.  I actually picked this up recently but have yet to play it, but the way that the writer describes the game, and the elegance that he attributes to it, really whets my appetite for my first game!

On No Rerolls, it’s been a quiet week.  We’ve just spoken a little about box art.

See you next week!
