It’s Friday, and here on No Rerolls that means it’s time for a little digest of some of our favourite articles from the past week. Of course, we’re slow readers, so don’t be surprised if there are some articles that are a little older – these are just some of the great articles we happen to have actually read in the past week.
They are in no particular order, so let’s get into some recommendations:
Fallout: Pen and Paper? @ Play Legit – An overview of a fan-created Fallout RPG. The author looks at the pros and cons of the system and discusses approaches to play, including an adventure that he himself wrote. Makes the game sound quite interesting.
Review – Age of Sigmar: Skirmish – No Spoilers @ A Tabletop Gamer’s Diary – The author shares some initial thoughts in an early review of the new skirmish rules for Age of Sigmar. This is a release I’ve been looking forward to, but I don’t think that this ruleset will give me everything I want from a fantasy skirmish game. Really, I’m still pining after Mordheim and I adore Malifaux. What this review makes clear is that although this isn’t a fully developed skirmish experience like those two titles, it still seems to be a fun game and will play quickly and smoothly. The review is accompanied by useful pictures and examines the pros and cons of what seems like an interesting, if not incredible, game.
My 2016 in Gaming @ The Reef – A little late in reading this one, but it’s a really cool breakdown of one player’s gaming experience in 2016. I really like the statistical approach taken, looking at the year’s gaming in relation to a few different metrics. I quite liked the bit about the author’s realisation of how few female-designed games they had played in the past year which does raise some questions about the wider hobby/industry.
Is Games Workshop the “Call of Duty” of Wargaming? @ Kronos the Traveler – An interesting article on the ubiquity of GW in the wargaming hobbyspace. I particularly liked the look at GW fan response to Mutant Chronicles miniatures. I don’t quite agree with every single point that the author makes, but he makes a lot of points in what is a very comprehensive article. A good read!
Why I gave D&D/Pathfinder a second chance. And why maybe you should too @ WonderCustard Cosplay – I really enjoyed this article which chronicles one player’s roundabout journey into tabletop roleplaying games. The GM that is described in the article sounds fantastic – everything a GM should be to a new player. I reallyl oved reading about how the author got into their first RPG campaign and I hope they get lots of chances for more campaigns in the future. Welcome to the fold!
On No Rerolls, we’re enjoying an unusually hot day in the Scottish Highlands! Our most recent post has been a selection of forms for Paranoia. I also wrote a little about games that really need their expansions. Oh, I also shared some Age of Sigmar army lists over at Hit Somebody!
See you next week!
