It’s Friday, and here on No Rerolls that means it’s time for a little digest of some of our favourite articles from the past week. Of course, we’re slow readers, so don’t be surprised if there are some articles that are a little older – these are just some of the great articles we happen to have actually read in the past week.
They are in no particular order, so let’s get into some recommendations:
A Few First Impressions [1960: The Making Of The President] @ Katie’s Game Corner – This is the first post I’ve read form this blog and I really enjoyed it. A good, thorough initial look at 1960: The Making of the President, in which the author looks at the rules and the production quality of the game. The author concurs with many of my own thoughts on the game and provides a good read. Top stuff.
There & Broch Again: Time-Travel and Past Encounters @ People, Places & the Past – A bit of local flavour as the author talks about brochs in Caithness, including about the Caithness Broch Project and some of their events and abmitions. Despite it being on my own doorstep, I hadn’t realised the displays currently on in Caithness Horizons, so I’ll be sure to take the author’s recommendation and meander down to take a look. They do sound interesting and, as the author points out, Caithness Horizons is always a fantastic venue.
Review: Blightwar @ A Tabletop Gamer’s Diary – A good review of the new Age of Sigmar boxed set, Blightwar. The author goes through the content of the box, remarking on them individually and on the makeup of the box as a whole. I must say that I share some of the author’s reservations on this box and although it’s a tempting purchase, given my own love of Papa Nurgle, I’d concur that the box feels a little light compared to their other big boxes. That said, I suppose these are repackaged retail models, rather than ones created especially for this set. Still on the fence about this set, but review like this with lots of useful pictures are quite helpful!
For Altdorf. The Empire project update. Part 2 @ Game of Travel – A beautiful, gorgeous, very cool Empire army for Warhammer. I do really like Age of Sigmar, and it’s seeing more play for me than Warhammer had in recent years, but there’s something just inherently impressive about the ranked-up units of Warhammer. This army is beautifully painted and I love the attention to detail on not only the models, but the movement trays as well. Visit the article and have a scroll through the fantastic pictures!
Blood Rage Strategy: The Elf and the Dwarf @ Start Your Meeples – I love Blood Rage, but deary me am I bad at it! I think I’m yet to win a game and yet I always have fun with it. This is nice article about a couple of the neutral units/monsters/whatever they’re called in the game and how to use them effectively. I think I’ll need more basic help to get any better, but the author presents a really nice article with lots of detailed explanations. Good, useful and might even help me not to not be quite as terrible!
On No Rerolls, we’ve talked about the pitfalls of roleplaying in established and evolving settings. It’s not something I’ve done a lot of, but it’s something I’ve been thinking about recently.
See you next week!
