It’s Friday, and here on No Rerolls that means it’s time for an all-new 5 on Friday. We’re going to start with 5 exciting releases for this week before moving on to our usual digest of some of our favourite articles from the past week. Of course, we’re slow readers, so don’t be surprised if there are some articles that are a little older – these are just some of the great articles we happen to have actually read in the past week.
Releases and Previews
Every week there are many games and miniatures released. This will probably be a mix of previews, preorders and releases, and with release dates being the way they are in this industry, it’s always pretty approximate. Excuses out of the way, here are 5 of the releases that caught our attention this week:
Ulisses puts out Wrath and Glory Starter Set – I maintain that Wrath and Glory looks pretty interesting. I wasn’t a huge fan of the FFG 40K RPGs, but I appreciate that there was a lot of good content pushed out for those games. Something that FFG never really did for their games was putting out starter sets. I do like RPG starter sets, so this offering from Ulisses is pretty cool:
Oh, it all looks very tempting That said, I hope that the company’s website is not a reflection of their general production qualities! I expect someone at the local gaming group will pick this up, so I’m going to take a look at their copies before grabbing one myself.
New book of sci-fi battle mats from Loke – These books of battle maps seem to be a bit of a trend at the moment. A fair few have been popping up. I like the idea of them a lot, especially for my after school group.
I keep putting it into my shopping basket, taking it back out, swithering and dithering… If for no other reason than morbid curiosity, I will likely pick one up eventually.
Paizo releases warship-themed mat for Starfinder – Oh, hey, more battle mats! It’s almost like I’m looking to pick some of these up…
It’s Pathfinder mats that I’ve been using for the past few years. They’re cheap, cheerful and do the job they need to do. I’ve been really happy with my mats and I’m tempted to pick this up for a game of Traveler I’d like to get going.
Games Workshop releases new Blades of Khorne Battletome – I do love Chaos in Age of Sigmar. It’s my Grand Alliance of choice. I’ve played Disciples of Tzeentch since I started playing AoS and I have picked up some Maggotkin of Nurgle as a second force. I like the idea that, eventually, I’d have a grand army, covering all of the Chaos Gods, so this book interests me greatly:
I like how Khorne works in AoS, with lots of stacking buffs and characters that boost the effectiveness of other units. The models are nice, too. I especially like the new Flesh Hounds.
MidKnight Heroes launches Super Chibi Villains Kickstarter – I have a buddy in a local gaming group that will love this Kickstarter! Chibi miniatures are so pretty and quirky and fun to paint. Well, I’m told they’re fun to paint. I’d have to actually buckle down and paint some miniatures to give a qualified opinion on that one…
These miniatures are rather nice, and the concept art for the as-yet-unseen miniatures is also really good. They’d fit in with the miniatures you’d find in Arcadia Quest, Super Dungeon Explore, or those put out by Impact Miniatures.
The meat of 5 on Friday, the articles are listed in no particular order, so let’s get into some recommendations:
More Sons of Vostroya join the fight!@ Not by Strength, by Guile – I always really liked the Vostroyan miniatures… just not quite enough to play Imperial Guard. If the current version of Kill Team had been around at the time, I might have been more tempted to pick up the models when they were readily available. The author of this post shares a number of nice pictures of their painted Vostroyans. They look really good! It’s also nice to read about the progress the author is making overall on their army.
Owlbear dice bag @ Silver Seams – Oh, it’s so cuuuute! I’d like a nice dice bag, and this little Owlbear one would be really cool! I think, in general, I want to sort out my dice and whatnot. You know, bring a bit of order to my accessories. Give the games the respect they deserve, maybe? The author shares some pictures of a really cool dice bag. I also like the silver dragon bag that gets shown at the end, but it’s just not as cool as the titular Owlbear!
GAMA reveals! Kill Team Elites (Custodes!), Blood Bowl Halflings and Kal Jerico @ Sprues & Brews – I like the new, outward-facing Games Workshop. For the longest time, they just would not engage with events like GAMA. Now, we get cool previews! These reveals ALL appeal to me. The Halfling team for Blood Bowl looks great and really characterful. The release of Jericho for Necromunda is great – he’s a proper classic character! More Kill Team is also welcome, too. Usually, I’d be more interested in the book, but both of these boxed teams appeal to me, too. Thanks for collating and sharing!
The One Day Board Game Workshop @ Tactile Academia – This is interesting. The workshop sounds really interesting. I think game design is such a fascinating exercise in interdisciplinary learning, so I’d love to go to an event like this one. Partly, this would be for the social aspect, but also to give me the impetus to try my hand at making something for myself. This is really worth a read, and it’s also full of lovely, pretty pictures!
Battle of Bride’s Grout – KoW @ Stourbridge and District Wargames Club – I like a good battle report when it’s chock-full of pictures of well-painted miniatures. It’s also nice, even though I do prefer Age of Sigmar to the classic Warhammer Fantasy Battles, to see ranked up miniatures! So many pretties!
This week on No Rerolls we’ve continued to maintain radio silence. We even missed 5 on Friday last week. Busy times!
Catch you later!
