Age of Sigmar is a fantastic game. It’s just so much more fun than Warhammer 40,000. The thing is, that doesn’t mean that 40K is bad. I’ve not played a lot of 40K since getting into AoS. I think it’s time to give 40K another chance and try to get a few games in, especially with club events looming.
I have a couple of lists to share with a view to getting back into it. The first of these lists is for an intro game I have set up for this week. I intend to take along some Daemons. I considered a Be’Lakor list, because he’s m’boi, but I settled instead on using Tzeentch Daemons and have put together a quick list to try out:
TZEN Army Faction: Chaos - Game Mode: Grand Tournament - Army Size: Incursion PATROL DETACHMENT - Faction: Legiones Daemonica HQ Lord of Change (345) - Warlord - Baleful sword - Exalted Lords of Change upgrade: Architect of Deception - Traits: Born of Sorcery - Psychic Powers: Infernal Gateway, Bolt of Change, Gaze of Fate - Relics: The Impossible Robe - Stratagems: Warlord Trait, Relic Changecaster (85) - Staff of change - Psychic Powers: Infernal Gateway, Treason of Tzeentch Troops Pink Horrors (150) - 1x Iridescent Horror - 1x Pink Horror: Instrument of Chaos - 1x Pink Horror: Daemonic Icon - 7x Pink Horror Blue Horrors (70) - 10x Blue Horror Elites Flamers (75) - 1x Pyrocaster - 2x Flamer Flamers (75) - 1x Pyrocaster - 2x Flamer Heavy Support Soul Grinder (190) - Allegiance: Tzeentch Stratagems - Warlord Trait (1CP) - Relic (1CP) Total Command Points: 4/5 Reinforcement Points: 10 Total Points: 990/1000

I really don’t know enough about 40K at the moment to know if this is a good list, but the Flamers seem pretty decent, and I’d like to use the Soul Grinder because it looks fun. My Soul Grinder is pretty Nurgle-themed, but he’ll do as a Tzeentch lad for this game. Lords of Change are just cool.
The game is with one of my common opponents. I’m not sure if this means that I’ll get a nice, gentle introduction or if I will have the fury of the Gods unleashed upon me. We’ll see. I hope it’s the former. The plan is to play both a game of 40K and an AoS one to practice with our lists for this weekend’s tournament.
We also have a club league event coming up. I only really have one army that is usable for this league, though it’s likely far from optimal. My intention, at least for the start, is to use my Necrons:
Army Faction: Necrons - Game Mode: Grand Tournament - Army Size: Strike Force BATTALION DETACHMENT - Faction: Necrons - Sub-faction: Mephrit HQ Catacomb Command Barge (180) - Warlord - Resurrection orb - Traits: Enduring Will - Relics: Veil of Darkness - Stratagems: Relic, Warlord Trait Illuminor Szeras (145) Technomancer (80) - Canoptek control node Chronomancer (85) - Entropic Lance Troops Necron Warriors (260) - 20x Necron Warrior: Gauss reaper Necron Warriors (130) - 10x Necron Warrior: Gauss reaper Necron Warriors (130) - 10x Necron Warrior: Gauss reaper Elites Skorpekh Destroyers (90) - 1x Skorpekh Destroyer with hyperphase reap-blade - 2x Skorpekh Destroyer C’tan Shard of the Nightbringer (320) - Power s: Antimatter Meteor, Sky of Falling Stars Fast Attack Tomb Blades (84) - 3x Tomb Blades: Shadowloom Canoptek Wraiths (105) - 3x Canoptek Wraiths Heavy Support Canoptek Doomstalker (130) Canoptek Doomstalker (130) Dedicated Transport Ghost Ark (130) Stratagems - Relic (1CP) - Warlord Trait (1CP) Total Command Points: 5/9 Reinforcement Points: 1 Total Points: 1999/2000

About half of the army is painted. I don’t think I have enough of any one thing to give the army much focus, but it’s a starting point.
I’m looking forward to trying it all out. I’ve been kind of negative on 40K for some time, so I think it’s fair to give the current edition a proper go. I will also be sharing a post on the state of my 40K collection and projects in the next week or two. Needless to say, I won’t need three posts (painted, in progress, planning) like I did for Age of Sigmar.
I’m hoping to enjoy my intro game in Thursday. I spent a lot of time painting my Necrons, and I’d like to paint some more 40K models. It would be great if I could actually use them as well.
