5 on Friday 03/02/23

It’s Friday, and here on No Rerolls that means it’s time for an all-new 5 on Friday. We’re going to start with 5 exciting releases for this week before moving on to our usual digest of some of our favourite articles from the past week. Of course, we’re slow readers, so don’t be surprised if there are some articles that are a little older – these are just some of the great articles we happen to have actually read in the past week.

Releases & Previews

Every week there are many games and miniatures released. This will probably be a mix of previews, preorders, and releases, and with release dates being the way they are in this industry, it’s always pretty approximate. Excuses out of the way, here are 5 of the releases that caught our attention this week:

Games Workshop releases a new Battletome for the Gloomspite Gitz – It’s great to see Games Workshop releasing stuff for the best army. Oh, sure some would say that’s a subjective thing. Those people would be wrong. Objectively wrong. Gitzbook!

I love this army and I am very excited about the book. I’m hoping to use it next week, actually. I could field Squigs, but I expect I’ll be putting my Troggoths on the table. Cannae wait!

Monte Cook Games releases Planar Bestiary for 5E D&D – More bestiaries! I love a good bestiary, and the last few I’ve seen from Monte Cook have been really good. The last one was a fusing of flesh and steel. This time, it’s interdimensional beasties from a plethora of planes:

With 150 entries and some truly gorgeous art, this is an exciting book. I mean, I always say that about bestiaries anyway, but I really, really mean it with this one!

Onyx Path launches Kickstarter campaign for a new edition of Pugmire – The first edition of Pugmire was a fun, interesting game that ran on a modified version of the 5E rules. Thematically, it was really cool, with Humans having gone years before, leaving dogs to inherit the earth. A new edition is now up on Kickstarter.

Being an Onyx Path book I’m pretty confident on the quality of writing, the art direction, and the general level of polish. This will be a good book to launch a good new edition of a good game. Good, innit? I took a closer look at the campaign in this week’s Kickstarter-Watch.

Harvester of Worlds campaign released on DM’s Guild – I don’t often look at campaigns on the DM’s Guild. This is partly because I don’t tend to run D&D all that much (outside of my after school group) and when I do, I tend to look at the WotC books and a few other titles that are flagged up to me. I had a wee scan of the DM’s guild recently, and found this one:

I’m interested because it’s a Spelljammer campaign, and a sizeable on for the DM’s guild. I’m reluctant to shell out the full price for a book I’m really unlikely to use, but I am curious. Might be worth a punt, yet.

NoRerolls releases The Outlandsknecht, a player class for MÖRK BORG –  I’m enjoying leaning Affinity Publisher and sharing my wee homebrew bits and bobs on DriveThruRPG. Yesterday, my latest offering was released:

The Outlandsknecht is not the class I thought I’d be putting out next, but he captured my attention a bit more than the RY_PO Man, so he jumped the queue!

Blog Posts & Articles

The meat of 5 on Friday, the articles are listed in no particular order, so let’s get into some recommendations:

Tips for a Sustainable Campaign @ Unpossible Journeys  Lots of really solid advice here from a blog that I consistently love. Any DM who has ambitions beyond small adventures should read through the points made here.

New Gloomspite Gitz Battletome 2023 Review – Warhammer Age of Sigmar 3rd Edition @ Sprues & Brews As I mentioned above, I’m really looking forward to reading and using this book! And, hey, so’s the author of this review! Reading reviews like this really builds the hype for me and gets me excited for the book.

Paint an Army in One Week or Your Money Back – The Second Part @ 52 Weeks 52 Games – Cannae beat a bit of speedpainting, eh? The author is putting together an army with some truly glorious pink miniatures. I’d agree with the conclusion that, despite the speedy process, these minis look good!

Little Nightmares @ Stalker7 This is a blog I really like, and I also really like the Zona Alfa rules that the author has published via Osprey Games. It’s cool to get a wee peek at what’s coming next. I also like that this is coming via Osprey. I like it when they bring back their good authors for new games.

Dracula’s America: Outlaws @ Wyrdstone and Tacklezones I like the feel of Dracula’s America. the Wierd West theme works well and is visually really cool. In this post, I really like the black-clad horsemen with their purple bandanas. That purple looks great as a nice pop of colour. Thanks for sharing!

Since my last 5 on Friday, I’ve published the following posts:

In the coming week, I’m not entirely sure what I’m going to focus on. Except for tomorrow. Tomorrow will be some completed minis!

Catch ya’ll next week!
