I don’t know what it is about goblins that make me want to write in verse. It’s becoming a thing. This particular supplement for Changeling: The Lost (a game we firmly stan) is heavily based on Christina Rossetti’s poem, Goblin Market. This is a poem that I really love, and one which can be read in a number of very different ways.
I like that White Wolf drew on Rosetti’s poem for inspiration. It’s a delectable cornucopia of fae imagery with significant themes of homosexual love and eroticism. The poem was misrepresented by some (including, on occasion, by Rossetti herself) as being for children, but this is very much not the case. When it came to incorporating some of the imagery from the poem into their RPG supplement, White Wolf downplayed some of the more blatant sexual suggestiveness.
As for my post, I don’t really know what led me to pick this particular format. I think I was just in a strange mood. Verse also seemed appropriate for a supplement that was so clearly inspired by a poem. Take a look:
