It’s Friday, and here on No Rerolls that means it’s time for an all-new 5 on Friday. We’re going to start with 5 exciting releases for this week before moving on to our usual digest of some of our favourite articles from the past week. Of course, we’re slow readers, so don’t be surprised if there are some articles that are a little older – these are just some of the great articles we happen to have actually read in the past week.
Releases & Previews
Every week there are many games and miniatures released. This will probably be a mix of previews, preorders, and releases, and with release dates being the way they are in this industry, it’s always pretty approximate. Excuses out of the way, here are 5 of the releases that caught our attention this week:
Games Workshop releases a new Battletome for the Kharadron Overlords – Previously the Kharadron Overlords were not an army in which I was particularly interested. I do like the concept. I like the models. I just never really felt real need to pursue the army, as such. That said, the new book raises some interesting questions for me.

I had discussed previously the option of perhaps running an army of Stormcast Eternals dragons, represented by a ramshackle assortment of Grot vehicles. This was to be my Great Grot Raceway army. On reflection, and for the sake of having a slightly more interesting army, I think these chaps could happily transition over to being a Kharadron Overlord force. Gloomspeed Overgitz? Need a better name. The new book has kind of cemented that view for me. It’s something to look at once I clear a project or two from the slate.

MZ Conti releases a character backstory supplement for 5E D&D – I am guilty when joining a one-shot, or being a late entry in a campaign, of hurriedly putting together a character and neglecting the backstory. Most times I can pad it out naturally as a campaign continues, but sometimes that can be tricky, depending on what the GM and other players give you to work with. Here comes MZ Conti with a supplement to help me!

I like the format of this, and I really appreciate how pretty the book looks, going by the available preview. It’s really nicely laid out and has pretty solid artwork. Given the nature of this type of book, it’s also pretty system-agnostic. Sure, it’s clearly aimed at D&D, but there’s nothing stopping you using it for other systems. The price, at $2.70, is also really reasonable, as this is something you can return to again and again.

Modiphius releases 3D-printable Star Trek Adventures miniatures – I really did not expect to see official, licensed Star Trek miniatures on DTRPG/Wargame Vault! It’s really cool to see Modiphius selling them on there. The miniatures themselves are also pretty cool, and definitely fit the bill in giving you a suitably diverse away team, including a male and female Andorian, Denobulan, Tellarite, and Vulcan:

I might actually pick these up, or possibly the other ones that are now being sold. I could see myself using them as a Stargrave crew, actually. I think that would be really cool. At the time of writing, these are going for $3. That really feels like an error. I think they are meant to be $3 each when bought individually and someone has messed up (Edit: They’re back up to $21).

Pharoah’s Workshop launches a Kickstarter campaign for 3D-printable Gaslands scenery – Gaslands terrain! Yeah, you cannae beat some post-apocalyptic vehicular mayhem. There are a lot of cool bits and piece in this Kickstarter campaign:

I’ve actually written a lot more about the campaign and the goodies therein in this week’s Kickstarter-Watch.
Jérémie Cogetone releases an English edition of the Tempus Fugit supplement for Vampire: The Masquerade – First of all, this is presented very well. That’s important. Take a look at the preview. I need to get the hang of layouts that are both beautiful and usable. I feel that I can produce something that looks pretty, but the usability isn’t always as strong. This strikes a good balance, and all with royalty-free images, too. I need to my head around this.

The content seems solid, too. This is a campaign book, combined with a ‘By Night’ supplement for Marseilles, and it also has details on playing as Baali. Fantastic! That’s not even all the content, either. At 188 pages, this is a meaty supplement.

Blog Posts & Articles
The meat of 5 on Friday, the articles are listed in no particular order, so let’s get into some recommendations:
The Seekers of the Fractal Schematic @ Comrade’s Wargames – Hah, I was actually just saying in our club Discord that I’d like to do some cool, Inq28-themed stuff. I love the idea of, via kitbashing or drawing from a wide range of minis, putting together a gang of really unique, individual characters. This gang looks great, and I recognise some of the minis!
Grant’s Top 10 Wargames of 2022! @ The Players’ Aid – As someone who is not really a wargamer, but who likes to dip a toe into that pool from time to time, I always find the lists at The Players’ Aid to be interesting. I know none of the games on this list. I suppose that’s because my main entry point is via GMT Games and there’s not much from them on the list. Of the games listed, I’m keen to go find more about numbers 9, 7, 6, and 4.
Our First AI Generated Top Three AoS Lists @ Woehammer – A fun article from Woehammer that sees an AI attempting to put together some army lists for Age of Sigmar.
Adventures in Mordheim pt1 @ BACKTOTHEHAMMER – Mordheim! I’ve got a fair bit of TTCombat’s earlier terrain and, well, it’s a bit bland. The newer stuff, as shown in this post, is a lot better. They’ve come on a fair way from their older, boxier offerings. Nice article, with loads of cool pictures. Looking forward to seeing more progress!
Turnip28 Snobs @ A Loft Full of Lead – Gorgeous. This post actually captures what’s really attracting me to Turnip28, as the author has gathered models from different places and converted them, or even just painted them, in a suitable way. Great models, great enthusiasm. I need to Turnip…

Since my last 5 on Friday, here’s what’s appeared on NoRerolls:
- A Kickstarter-Watch on some Gaslands terrain.
- A painted Goblin from Avatars of War.
- Some thoughts on playing RPGs based on songs.
- A wee story about the death of a Stormcast Eternal.
- A sci-fi book bundle.
- A Throwback Thursday featuring a local club painting contest.
And that’s us for now. In the coming days, I’m intending to finish up some more Gitz. Always more Gitz…
Catch ya’ll next week!
