Okay, so… this might genuinely be the most niche Throwback Thursday I’ve yet done. Everything on here is pretty niche, but this one is something else. I’ve written before about my love of Triple Triad, the minigame from Squaresoft’s classic, Final Fantasy VIII.
This is a numbering guide that had been doing the rounds in the TT community for some time. I posted it on my TripleTriadCards blog, which I then rolled into this one site a bit later. This gives a guide on creating fair and balanced cards.
Here are the level 1 guidelines as an example of what to expect:

Maximum Total Points = 13
Highest Number Allowed = 6
- When highest number is used, next highest number allowed = 2
2nd Highest Number Allowed = 5
- When 2nd highest number is used, next highest number allowed = 4
- When 5-4 is used, next highest number allowed = 2
- (Technically on FF8, when 5-4 is used, next highest number allowed = 1)
- When 5-4-2 is used, next highest number allowed = 1
3rd Highest Number Allowed = 4
- When 3rd highest number is used, next highest number allowed = 4
- When 4-4 is used, next highest number allowed = 3
Highest Corner/Wedge Allowed = 5-4 (followed by 2 then 1)
- (Doesn’t matter which order you use the numbers in, rules still apply)
