It’s Friday, and here on No Rerolls that means it’s time for an all-new 5 on Friday. We’re going to start with 5 exciting releases for this week before moving on to our usual digest of some of our favourite articles from the past week. Of course, we’re slow readers, so don’t be surprised if there are some articles that are a little older – these are just some of the great articles we happen to have actually read in the past week.
Releases & Previews
Every week there are many games, books, and miniatures released. This will probably be a mix of previews, preorders, and releases, and with release dates being the way they are in this industry, it’s always pretty approximate. Excuses out of the way, here are 5 of the releases that caught our attention this week:
Mongoose releases Mysteries of the Ancients for Traveller – To me, this seems like a different sort of adventure for Traveller. I like sci-fi stories about technologically advanced civilisations trying to delve into the secret of some ancient, long-dead race. This will fit well into Traveller.

This seems to be something of a prequel to Secrets of the Ancients, which was released a few years ago. This is a big PDF, weighing in at 304 pages. There seems to be a lot of content here to really launch your Ancients Hunter campaign.

Steve Jackson Games is running a Kickstarter campaign for Tabloids – Regular readers will know my general distaste for Steve Jackson Games and their products. I’ve been wrong before, though. I’ve also flagged up interesting Kickstarters from them before. Of course, I could just be feeling a bit guilty…

On the one hand, the game looks fun; I do like word games. On the other hand, it does feel like this is another Cards Against Humanity wannabe. There were a lot of these types of games a few years ago and maybe this one is coming in after the peak of the trend.
Conner Dejecacion releases Corpo-Rats on DriveThruRPG – I’m trying to read a lot of these little, one-page RPGs. I just want more things that I can pull out for an impromptu one-shot, y’know?

This one is a cool, little game formatted to be printed off as a foldable leaflet. Thematically, it’s a fun corporate ladder game. Mechanically, it has some similarities to the excellent Lasers & Feelings. Worth a play, I reckon.

Cryptid Creeks RPG currently up on Kickstarter – This is inspired by Gravity falls and looks like it will be a cool entry into the ‘kids in peril’ genre of RPGs:

Beautifully illustrated and with a cool concept, this is an interesting project. Ruleswise, it should be pretty solid, as it’s based on the well-established and well-respected Powered by the Apocalypse engine.
Modiphius releases a new Star Trek Adventures supplement featuring The Animated Series – Oh, I’m delighted to see this! I can’t claim to be a big fan of the old Star Trek animated series, but it’s great to see it getting some recognition from Modiphius in the Star Trek Adventures line.

The artwork in the book is, of course, done in a similar style to the show. There are rules for the full bridge crew, a bunch of NPCs, new lifeplan options, extra equipment, and a lot more. It’s also been confirmed that this will be a PDF-only release and will not receive a print edition.

Blog Posts & Articles
The meat of 5 on Friday, the articles are listed in no particular order, so let’s get into some recommendations:
Trugg’s Troggherd: Reveals and Reactions @ Plastic Craic – I’ll be grabbing Trugg when Games Workshop’s preorders go live tomorrow (via our friends at Element Games, of course!) so it’s good to read up on what to expect from the big chap. It looks like he’ll be fun, even if he’s not setting the meta alight. I love Troggs…
Representation in Board Games @ Bear’s Game Table – This is an interesting post. I’ve been thinking about representation in RPGs, so it’s cool to see someone looking at the board game side of the hobby. I imagine that RPGs will generally be a little stronger on this than board games, but many do suffer from the western fantasy problem laid out in this post.
Dungeon Keeper Gold @ Inside My Shell I Milk and Hate – Dungeon Keeper! Fantastic to see folk playing it. Good job on getting through all the GoG nonsense. There are some good tips here, too.
Rivendell Elf Army @ K.C. Holt Miniature Painting – Oh, these are nice! I really feel that the LotR range has held up to the test of time and still looks excellent. It helps, of course, that these models are particularly well painted!
More Custom Hearthstone Cards @ Asher’s Blog Of Random Information – I like making custom cards for other games, so it’s cool to see others doing the same. I also love me some Hearthstone!

This week I still need to do more Flesh-Eaters, but I’m starting to doubt that I can muster the effort.
Catch y’all soon!
