Humble Bundle: 5E Mega Bundle

5E, by which I mean the 5th edition of Dungeons & Dragons, is pretty ubiquitous. Annoying so, really. The fact that I likely didn’t even need to include the clarification should speak volumes on that. When we say 5E, we of course speak of D&D.

Worries of oversaturation aside, this is an interesting and appealing bundle. There are a lot of companies putting out really good third-party material for the system. Kobold Press is one of my favourite publishers, and they are well-represented here.

I often moan and complain about Humble Bundle not packaging their tabletop bundles well. I usually point out that they don’t make the lower levels of the bundles usable by not including core rules, and instead hiding these crucial books (the only books actually required to play these games) away in higher tiers at a higher price point, thereby making the lower tiers functionally useless. This time, I’m not worried about that sort of thing. These are third-party supplements for D&D. You need to pick up the core rulebook for the original game before you can expect to bolt on some third-party enhancements.

There are a few tiers to this bundle, but it’s so cheap that I’m just going tp look at the whole thing. £20.62 for 73 items is an absolute steal:

Now, I’m not going to claim that everything here is gold. I’m going to pick out some of my highlights.

First and foremost is the Tome of Beasts III. I love Kobold Press’ bestiaries. I have several of them, though not this specific one. They contain loads of cool creatures, and the art is consistently very good. This is definitely the highlight of the whole bundle.

I also really like the Prepared books. These are collections of one-shot adventures which, again, come from Kobold Press. These are great as one-shots, as scenarios to be dropped into your campaigns, and for events and conventions.

Honestly, I could recommend all of the Kobold Press stuff. Well, maybe not so much the Tales of the Valiant preview… but otherwise, they are really solid!

The Peacesetter titles in here also seem good, though I’m a lot less familiar with them. Honestly, I’m not familiar with much here at all, outside of Kobold’s offerings. For those books alone, the price of entry is definitely worthwhile.
