It’s Friday, and here on No Rerolls that means it’s time for an all-new 5 on Friday. We’re going to start with 5 exciting releases for this week before moving on to our usual digest of some of our favourite articles from the past week. Of course, we’re slow readers, so don’t be surprised if there are some articles that are a little older – these are just some of the great articles we happen to have actually read in the past week.
Releases & Previews
Every week there are many games, books, and miniatures released. This will probably be a mix of previews, preorders, and releases, and with release dates being the way they are in this industry, it’s always pretty approximate. Excuses out of the way, here are 5 of the releases that caught our attention this week:
Black Library releases on Omnibus of Yarrick stories – Yarrick is a classic Warhammer 40,000 character. It was around the time of the Third War for Armageddon campaign that I really got heavily into 40K, so was a figure that really loomed large. It’s cool to see him still be relevant and celebrated in books like this one:

This book include all of author David Annandale’s Yarrick stories. There are two novels in here (Imperial Creed and The Pyres of Armageddon) and a novella (Chains of Golgotha) and a bunch of short stories. Lots of content about the bestest Commissar the Imperial Guard has ever produced.

Corvus Belli releases Caskuda WCD Armored Jump for Infinity’s Combined Army – The Combined Army has never been one of my favourite aspects of Infinity. I just like other armies more. That said there are a few miniatures that really jump out at me, and this would definitely be one such model:

I love the insectoid feel that this model exudes. It’s really cool, with a cool sense of scale and presence. I don’t see myself picking it up, as I just don’t have a use for it, but it’s really cool!

Zachary Kotlow releases Voyager Archetypes for D&D 5E – Pirates! I do enjoy nautical themes in my campaigns, and this supplement looks to support that. It’s full of new subclasses, abilities, creatures, and other content to service these themes.

Subclasses like the Sea Mage, Circle of Flow Druid, and Sea Witch Sorceror all sound really fun and interesting. I’d love to have a flip through this one, as I do find homebrew subclasses really interesting!

Cubicle 7 releases Aeldari supplement for Wrath & Glory – Last time Army Painter rolled out a new paint range it was… bad. It was mishandled, and then complaints were downplayed. The Speedpaints were just bad. That said, I’ve picked up a few of the Speedpaints 2.0 range and I like them a lot. It’s the metallics I use, and I really like them. This new Fanatic range seems to have been more thought through, has more engagements from the community, and just will hopefully be a smoother, better rollout.:

I’m really keen to pick up some colours and try them out, even if I don’t grab this 50-paint Mega Set immediately. The coverage, from the previews I’ve seen, looks really good. I’m keen to read more reviews from people who haven’t been involved in the development, though.

Maso Perez and Kitfox Games release a Boyfriend Dungeon RPG – Boyfriend Dungeon is a video game. It’s not one I had been aware of until I saw this. Here’s a trailer:
Now, there’s going to be an RPG:

Yeah… I’m not sure what to make of the video game. I appreciate a bit of a quirky game though, and the dating sim genre has produced some interestingly subversive titles over the years, like Doki Doki Literature Club and Class of ’09. God, I love Class of ’09! Yeah, okay, I don’t know much about this, but I like the concept.

Blog Posts & Articles
The meat of 5 on Friday, the articles are listed in no particular order, so let’s get into some recommendations:
Kruleboyz Klaw – Complete! @ A Tabletop Gamer’s Diary – Brilliant! I’ve been consistently delighted and impressed by this chap’s Orruks. It’s great to see the cunnin’ ones done.
App Review – Dominion (Steam) @ Dude! Take Your Turn! – I love Dominion, but I’ve not tried this version yet. The review makes it seem pretty solid. There are some really good digital editions of board games, with Root being a current favourite of mine.
Year in Review: Thoughts @ LunarShadow Designs – Again, I love these reflective posts by LunarShadow. I like what he puts out, and I feel like I learn a lot from these posts.
Speed Paints Are Great For Me @ Fun with Warhammer Age of Sigmar – My own preference lies with Games Workshop’s Contrast Paints, but it’s the same idea. These paints are great. Really, it’s what I use for most miniatures now. At first, I felt a bit guilty, but now I’m good with it. I’m delighted that I used to struggle to get through more than a couple dozen miniatures per year, and then the last few years have seen an explosion in productivity. Last year I got through over 500 minis. Yeah, Speedpaints, Contrast paints, and the like are just fantastic.
Slow Grow Challenge 2024 @ Woehammer –This looks like a fun challenge/event! I lurk a fair bit on the Woehammer Discord and I reckon I’ll be jumping into this one.

There have been a few posts since my last 5 on Friday:
- 20 finished Plague Monks!
- A Pratchett-filled Humble Bundle
- A pair of finished Grey Seers
- Another 20 Plague Monks!
- Some thoughts on whimsy in RPGs
- A Throwback Thursday about some games, including Eldritch Horror
42 miniatures this week? Brilliant! I’m not going to hit that next week. I’ve been too busy working on building some stuff to make much progress on painting. Namely, I’ve been building a Stargrave crew and some Flesh-Eater Courts minis. I should really focus on the Skaven, but I get distracted so easily. I might try to build my last 20 Plague Monks tomorrow.
In terms of purchases, I bought 20 Underworlds miniatures from a friend. Oh, dear…
Painting, purchasing and printing totals so far this year:
- Purchased: 27 minis
- Printed: 0 minis
- Painted: 60 minis
Good progress!
