It’s Friday, and here on No Rerolls that means it’s time for an all-new 5 on Friday. We’re going to start with 5 exciting releases for this week before moving on to our usual digest of some of our favourite articles from the past week. Of course, we’re slow readers, so don’t be surprised if there are some articles that are a little older – these are just some of the great articles we happen to have actually read in the past week.
Releases & Previews
Every week there are many games, books, and miniatures released. This will probably be a mix of previews, preorders, and releases, and with release dmystates being the way they are in this industry, it’s always pretty approximate. Excuses out of the way, here are 5 of the releases that caught our attention this week:
Games Workshop releases a Grand Cathay Battalion box for The Old World – Alongside the new book, there’s a battalion box for the Armies of Grand Cathay. It’s actually looks really great:

It’s not a bad deal either. 30 infantry, 20 cavalry and a couple of artillery pieces with their crew. This is actually a box where you might buy more than one. It does feel, potentially, like one of these building block-style boxes that we used to get before GW started padding them out with named characters. Fantastic!

Cubicle 7 releases a new edition of The Laundry RPG – I enjoy The Laundry Files, the series of Lovecraftian workplace horror novels from Charles Stross. I’ve been aware of the RPG based upon the books for some time, but never took the plunge. Now, there’s a new edition:

It does seem to be all change; there’s a new system for this new edition, and the visual design of the books feels a bit more sleek and modern. The game will, of course, still follow the themes of Stross’ novels and give that good mix of mythos, workplace drudgery, spy thriller, and existential dread. It will now do with a D6 system!

MTG-themed Funko Pops, like Oko the Trickster, to be released – On the one hand, I’m a little surprised there are MTG Funko Pops out there, but on the other… well… what hasn’t been made into Funko Pops at this point? Here’s Oko:

I like Oko. My preferred Oko, gameplay-wise, is the Thief of Crowns. All Okos are good Okos, though. This one, with those tendrils, is definitely based on the Trickster. Yeah, cool wee guy!

Atomic Mass to release Outer Rim Outlaws set for Star Wars Legion – Atomic Mass is continuing their refresh of the Star Wars Legion range. This time, we’re seeing some familiar faces for anyone who’s been watching the Disney+ Star Wars TV shows:

These look good! They’ll never be as cool or detailed as the Shatterpoint minis, but that’s okay The Mando miniature is nice and crips, and instantly recognisable. The Boba Fett mini is cool, reflecting him at the time of The Book of Boba Fett. There’s also an option for Boba to go without his helmet. That is not an option for Mando; that would, indeed, not be the way. Grogu is cool as well, but I don’t feel that I needed to state that.

Wizards of the Coast is taking preorders for Dragon Delves, an adventure anthology for D&D – I still don’t really like the name of this edition of D&D, nor the cynicism with which it seemed to be getting pushed last time I checked in on it, which was admittedly quite some time before release. Oh, well. Here’s an adventure book:

The book contains 10 adventures, all of which are themed around dragons. They cover a wide range of levels and there are some solo options for anyone who is that way inclined. I don’t know that I’ll be jumping onto this edition; I’m happy with the previous one, and I just have other games I want to play.

Blog Posts & Articles
The meat of 5 on Friday, the articles are listed in no particular order, so let’s get into some recommendations:
Daily Commander: Talion, the Kindly Lord @ J.M. Casual Blog – Oh, fun! There are probably better faerie commanders out there – in fact, there are – but this one seems fun. He (she? sidhe?) is really cool, fun, and in a colour combination I don’t currently have a deck for. A nice post.
Turnip28 Rocket Crew @ A Loft Full of Lead – More fantastic Turnip28 minis from this blogger. I continue to look on with envy as I see beautifully painted miniatures for this grimy, starchy game posted on the blog. I need to join the party…
Slipping into Sigmar..? @ Spalanz – This post is really about 2 separate things. First of all, Age of Sigmar is excellent and I’m delighted to see more folk getting into it. I actually have a club event for AoS tomorrow that I’m really looking forward to! The other thing is Warcry. It does seem to be dying. That’s okay though; it’s a full, playable game that you can dive into with AoS minis. Welcome to the Mortal Realms!
Prussians half done @ Wargaming Workshop – Commitment! It’s great to see such progress on a big project, and the miniatures shown are beautifully painted.
Where The Butterfly Roams… @ Convert or Die – This is an incredibly relatable post. It’s worth considering how one organises the painting queue. It’s something I’ve not really been managing well as of late, but something I do need to get back on top of.

There have been a few posts since my last 5 on Friday:
- My completed Rotbringer Sorcerer
- June’s Game of the Month
- Thinking about the MTG card, Coalition Victory
- June’s resolutions roundup
- Humble Bundle’s RPG Megabundle
- Plaguebearers, bases, and squigs for Throwback Thursday
Just the 1 miniature completed this week, bringing our totals for the year so far to:
Purchased: 36
Painted: 89
Catch you next week!

You do indeed need to join the Turnip28 party, not only are the 3D printable figures amazing, you can just kit bash your own, which is what I did for my “first” Turnip28 army.
The more important aspect is that the rules are very good indeed, if the rules are not fun, I tend not to go back to a game.
