It’s Friday, and here on No Rerolls that means it’s time for an all-new 5 on Friday. We’re going to start with 5 exciting releases for this week before moving on to our usual digest of some of our favourite articles from the past week. Of course, we’re slow readers, so don’t be surprised if there are some articles that are a little older – these are just some of the great articles we happen to have actually read in the past week.
Releases & Previews
Every week there are many games, books, and miniatures released. This will probably be a mix of previews, preorders, and releases, and with release dates being the way they are in this industry, it’s always pretty approximate. Excuses out of the way, here are 5 of the releases that caught our attention this week:
Games Workshop releases the new Cogfort miniature for Age of Sigmar – I love when Games Workshop makes big, dumb miniatures for Age of Sigmar. The Cogfort is a big, dumb miniature:

Beautiful. Massive. Stupid. Making it usable by every army may feel like a bit of a cash-grab, but I’m looking forward to seeing how folk approach converting it to make it better fit with different armies. It’s also yet another factor in making the Cities of Sigmar such a cool and tempting army.

Chaosium releases Year of the Goat for Call of Cthulhu – Another cool Call of Cthulhu supplement from Chaosium. This time, it’s a bunch of scenarios based around Shub-Niggurath:

This is 228 pages of adventure, based around the Black Goat itself. There are a couple of adventures listed that I’d particularly like to read and play. The Convent of Sancta Maria Lactans looks a lot of fun, as does To Serve in Heaven and Nos Galan Gaeaf. So many cool hooks!

Mantic Games is taking preorders for a reprint of their Worms board game – Worms was a big game for me, growing up. I started with the original game, on PC, SNES, and PS1. Worms 2 was probably peak worms for me, and the PC version had insane levels of customisation options. Worms Armageddon was also pretty excellent. I’ve been away from the franchise for some time, but was interested to see this come up for reprinting from Mantic:

I need to properly look into the game and see if it’s for me. The franchise is certainly one that still appeals to me, but we’ve all seen terrible cash-grab games in the past. I have high hopes that Mantic will be faithful and really push for a solid game, though. One to watch, I reckon.

The Army Painter releases a Mega Set of their Speed Paint Markers – I suppose that it was inevitable that, as The Army Painter continues to roll out their Speed Paint Marker Range, they would release a big box of them. Here it is:

60 Markers in a good selection of colours? Seems decent enough. I just haven’t tried one yet, and nor have any friends of mine. I’d be keen to see how exactly they feel before I’d be able to commit to this sort of purchase.

Stonemaier Games releases Sharks and Reefs expansion for Finspan – Finspan is the most recent in a series of games that follow on from Wingspan. Sharks and Reefs is an expansion pack for the game. It features sharks… and reefs.

I’ve still not played any of the Wingspan/Wyrmspan/Finspan games, though I hear good things. I do have Wyrmspan sitting, sad and unplayed, on a shelf.

Blog Posts & Articles
The meat of 5 on Friday, the articles are listed in no particular order, so let’s get into some recommendations:
The Silent Cockpit – Sky Team Review @ Dude! Take Your Turn! – This is a game that keeps coming to my attention, but is never quite at the top of any list when I go to buy. it sounds really interesting and a good one for my wife and me to play together.
Cogfort Hobby Challenge, and General Update @ Plastic Craic – I’d have liked to take part in this challenge, but I just don’t have the time. It’s great to see the progress on the author’s Cogfort conversion, and I’m very much looking forward to seeing what else comes out of the challenge.
Dude, where’s my mana: Secret Lairs are not for Everything @ The Kind GM – I definitely agree with the author on the shortcomings of the current Secret Lair setup. Terrible. Oh, and he writes about potentially doing an Ygra deck based on Witherbloom Pestilence. I’ve done that. I’ve been building Ygra on and off for years. Finally got it functioning!
Horus Heresy: The Path of Heaven @ Spalanz – There really are a lot Horus Heresy books, huh? Review makes it sound decent, even if it’s clearly not one of the gems of the series. The author makes a point towards the end about the inconsistency of the series, which is definitely a criticism I would echo.
Monday Book Haul Madness @ Wordaholic Anonymous – I’ve not done many haul posts, and certainly none for quite a while. There are a few books here that grab my interest, such as Celestine and Hive.

Catch you next week!

Thanks for the link, and you should try Finspan!!!
I don’t know if I’d say it’s better than Wingspan, but it is definitely good.
Haven’t played the expansion yet, though.
Like you, I haven’t played any “span” games yet. We tried to play Wingspan once but got stuck in the “it’s late in the evening and I have to deciper all of this and then explain it? gah, let’s play Hungry Hungry Hippos!” I did buy it on Steam some time ago so one day I’ll let it teach me and then perhaps we’ll maage to table it!
Thanks for the shout out! it got in with the spam but I sorted it out now. Hive surely is one of the biggest hauls this year for me! I am glad I got it and did not have to pay extortion amount of prices…
