Resolutions 2026: June Roundup

It’s one thing to set resolutions, and quite another to hold oneself to them.  I intend to review my progress monthly toward each of the resolutions.  Welcome, then, to our roundup for June 2026.  Let’s start with a reminder of where we got to last month:

Now, let’s take a look at what sort of progress was made in June.

June Roundup: Painting

It’s been a very quiet month on the painting front. No new miniatures were completed. Not much hobby work was done at all, actually. Once again, I did manage to clean up a few prints for other people.

Not only have I not moved on my total models painted, but I’ve also managed to torpedo my ratio of purchases to painted minis. I grabbed an Armageddon box and traded away my Space Marine half for another Ork half.

This brings my running totals for the year to date to:

  • Purchased: 76
  • Painted: 58

The deficit begins! Oh, dear…

June Roundup: Gaming

The goal for this year, as with last year, is to play 30 different games. Here are the games played up to the start of this month:

  1. Magic: the Gathering (Commander)
  2. Dungeons & Dragons
  3. Viscounts of the West Kingdom
  4. Burrows & Badgers
  5. Apiary
  6. Age of Sigmar
  7. Sagrada
  8. Scout
  9. Escape the Dark Sector
  10. Isle of Skye
  11. Century: Golem Edition
  12. Escape from Tiddles Tower
  13. New York Zoo
  14. Endangered Orphans: House of Rath
  15. Arcane Academy
  16. Root

This month, I am adding a few more games to the list:

Heat was fun. I played a big version of it at Carronade at the start of the month, and then broke it out at club a couple of weeks later.

Is it one of the best games I’ve ever played? Nah. Will it make it into my top 50 this year? Quite possibly. It was fun. I’d play it again. It’s also one that’s been sitting on the shelf for around a year, so I like that I’ve crossed it off the pile of shame.

Another game that I’ve banished from that pile is Black Ops, a set of wargame rules from Osprey. Again, I got to try it at Carronade, playing a fun, pulpy scenario of British and German soldiers trying to rescue dignitaries from the jungle before they can get eaten by a dinosaur.

I also got Terraforming Mars: Ares Expedition back to the table. It’s such a great game!

It was so good to play this again that I’ve also written up a review of it as our game of the month.

Finally, it was great to get to revisit A Game of Thrones. It’s such a great, cutthroat game! We used to play it a lot, but it’s been years since we last played. Some rules were misread! Still, a great, and only mildly stressful, time was had. My Greyjoys got off to such a great start, but then got dismantled by the Starks and Lannisters. All in-character, I guess.

June Roundup: Writing

This month sees another 9 new reviews:

Still got a fair few reviews sitting in the queue, waiting to be posted; though most of the finished ones are reviews of each season of My Hero Academia…

Here were my other wordier posts for June:

I’ve mostly cleared out the books in the review queue; there are maybe 2 left? Time to restock for summer, I think.
