StoryBundle: Universe of Adventure

StoryBundle is a site that curates and sells bundles of ebooks. They tend to focus on sci-fi and fantasy, and are usually further themed within those genres. They’re a great way to find new writers, stories, and series.

This time, we’re getting a selection of sci-fi adventures, which can be galactic scale, or smaller, and more personal. This bundle consists of two tiers. The first tier costs $5 and gets you four items:

  • Constelis Voss 1 by K. Leigh
  • Ghost Pirate Gambit by Jessie Kwak
  • Broken Ascension by Dave Walsh
  • Convergence by C. Gockel

Dave Walsh’s Broken Ascension seems like the highlight for me here. I like the idea of starting off in a wrecked, post-war galaxy. I suppose that’s part of what I like about Warhammer 40,000. The main character is an artist, a sensible soul tagging along with mercenaries who find an abandoned alien baby on a derelict ship. Looks like a good premise.

The second tier unlocks the rest of the bundle (labelled as bonus in the image above) and can be yours for $20. For this price, you get everything in the previous tier plus the following items:

  • Ptolemy Lane 1-3 by Cameron Cooper (StoryBundle Exclusive)
  • Devon Island Mars Colony by Si Clarke
  • Psycho Electric by Randolph Lalonde
  • Shifting Reality by Patty Jansen
  • League of Independent Operatives – Books 1-3 by Kate Sheeran Swed
  • The Big Sigma Collection Vol. 1 – Enhanced by Joseph R. Lallo
  • Fire Ant by Jonathan P. Brazee
  • Space Rogues 1-2 & Grand Human Empire 1-2 by John Wilker (StoryBundle Exclusive)

Devon Island Mars Colony looks really interesting. I like the sound of the first book in particular. I like the idea of an intentional community. The planning of a whole society, with the knowledge that they will be left helpless if catastrophe should strike, is a high-stakes concept that I look forward to seeing debated in this book.

Books 1 through 3 of League of Independent Operatives are here, too. They sound interesting, with a character that sounds not entirely dissimilar to a female Batman. By this, I mean that she is an orphaned, philanthropist, playgirl heiress who also acts as a masked vigilante. Uncanny, innit? The stories sound cool, with a good mix of action and investigation.

Ptolemy Lane also looks to be an interesting series with a hard-boiled detective feel to it. That sort of approach appeals to me, what with my love of series like that of Raymond Chandler’s oeuvre and Jim Butcher’s Dresden Files series.

Yeah. it looks like there are some interesting titles here. It’s worth a look if you’re into sci-fi and fancy a new adventure story or series. As usual, the price seems pretty reasonable for what you’re getting.
