Complete: Frostgrave Cultist Warband

With an eye to getting into some different skirmish games next year, I’ve painted up a warband of cultists for Osprey’s Frostgrave. Although Frostgrave is a range-agnostic miniatures game in which you could use all sorts of different miniatures, North Star Military Figures do produce a range of Frostgrave-specific miniatures. I used the Cultists box for this set, along with some spare parts from the Soldiers set to give me some extra weapon and equipment options.

Simple, quick job to get these models ready for the table.

These chaps are among the sinister forces that hope to rediscover the secrets of the Frozen City for their nefarious masters. Who are these masters? Well, any warband needs a leader. With that in mind, I painted up a suitably sinister wizard and his apprentice. To build the miniatures, I used the fantastic and versatile Wizards boxed set. Here are the two leaders:

This not only takes a stack of 22 models out of the pile of shame, but it also fulfils half of one of my resolutions, giving me a starting force for a skirmish game!

I’d like to do a second set of Frostgrave minis to stand me in good stead for intro games and just for the fun of it. I actually have a second set built and primed. One definitely needs redone as the blue I had planned to use is just too bright (yes, too bright even for me!) and I’m considering doing them in greens instead.

  1. Well, I do love the NorthStar/Osprey minis and Frostgrave. So naturally, I love seeing these minis all nicely painted! If I recall, those minis had base tabs on them? So you removed them and stuck them on what looks like maybe Renedra bases? Great looking war band either way, and yes many a player has been sucked into ‘Just one more Wizard and Warband’! 🙂

      1. I stumbled upon their bases awhile back, so that’s why I recognized them. Unfortunately I haven’t been able to use the bases as much as I would like, but I’m sure they will get used up in time! 🙂
