It’s Friday, and here on No Rerolls that means it’s time for an all-new 5 on Friday. We’re going to start with 5 exciting releases for this week before moving on to our usual digest of some of our favourite articles from the past week. Of course, we’re slow readers, so don’t be surprised if there are some articles that are a little older – these are just some of the great articles we happen to have actually read in the past week.
Releases & Previews
Every week there are many games, books, and miniatures released. This will probably be a mix of previews, preorders, and releases, and with release dates being the way they are in this industry, it’s always pretty approximate. Excuses out of the way, here are 5 of the releases that caught our attention this week:
Games Workshop offers a reprint of Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader – In celebration of 40 years of Warhammer, Games Workshop are reprinting the first edition of Warhammer 40,000, known as Rogue Trader. This will be a print on demand item, so you’re only going to get it on the GW site:

This is a very different 40K. The rules are a lot less polished, and the setting a lot less developed. The background is pretty wild, with a feeling that it was really just a load of guys throwing ideas at a wall to see what sticks. It has real charm. I need to dig out my old copy… This is a really cool move by GW, and just a nice celebration of what came before.
Wizards of the Coast releases Planescape boxed set for 5E D&D – Some time ago, I wrote about the prospect of revisiting old D&D settings in 5E. With the release of this Planescape boxed set, we’re down to just one of the items from my list that has not yet happened. Dark Sun next! The Planescape box looks cool, having been done in the same format as the Spelljammer one:

I started a replay of Planescape: Torment a wee while ago, so this is good timing for me. It’s suh an interesting and varied setting. I’m likely to try to pick this up at some point.

GMT releases Mr. President: The American Presidency 2001-2020 – This game looks amazing. The thing is, I don’t know that I’d actually want it. It’s expansive, and gorgeous, and cenceptually fantastic… but I just don’t really care all that much about solo games, y’know?

Board games are a social experience for me. I love that aspect of them; it’s why I play. And yet this game looks gorgeous, and interesting, and challenging, and just damn cool…

Cubicle 7 releases Blackened Earth book for Soulbound – I like Soulbound. Some of the rules are a bit loose in places, and I’m definitely not the biggest fan of how distances work in combat, but it’s a good game. It also lets me play in the Mortal Realms, which is naturally going to be a big plus for me.

What’s fun here for me is the focus on Greywater Fastnmess. I’d love to do a high-tech Cities of Sigmar army focused around Greywater Fastness, so the chance to really get in and explore it in Soulbound really appeals.

Arc Dream Publishing releases God’s Teeth for Delta Green on DTRPG – Arc Dream continues to put out fascinating and unsettling content for Delta Green. This one leans quite heavily into unsettling…

To illustrate this, here’s the content warning from the store page:

I think there’s definitely a place for this kind of darker content. I think that a game like Delta Green, which deals in supernatural darkness that’s anchored in our contemporary world is a good place to explore it. I’d be keen to read this book, though I don’t know that I’d want to run it.

Blog Posts & Articles
The meat of 5 on Friday, the articles are listed in no particular order, so let’s get into some recommendations:
Top Three AoS Lists for the Michigan GT @ Woehammer – I like these lists. The Ogor one seems fun and varied, rather than spamming the same units. The Nurgle one is heavy on flies, but still has some variety, and you get to field the Glottkin. I’d just need to build the Rotmire to have a go at that list…
Warhammer Day thoughts @ Spalanz – This is a good rundown of the reveals from Warhammer Day. Everything looks so great!
Orktober: Maniak Boarboyz @ A Tabletop Gamer’s Diary – Having just grabbed three boxes of these piggies, this post caught my eye. I’m looking forward to putting some paint to mine; though I doubt they’d look as good as these chaps!
My First Session of Heart: The City Beneath Is In The Can @ Broken Words – I’m really keen to play Heart, so I devoured this post. It makes for an interesting account of an initial session. I can definitely relate to the issue of missing rules when trying out a new game for the first time. Looking forward to reading about next session!
Listbuilding with TRUGG’S GREAT TROGGHERD @ Plastic Craic – Trugg! I do like Trugg, and he was actually the only model I painted last month. I’ve not gotten him to the table yet, though. Looking at this post from Plastic Craic, I need to grab some more Dankhold Troggoths to accompany him…

I wasn’t going to buy Mr. President but then it hit 50% off at Cool Stuff and I bit the bullet. I’ll never get it to the table, but I’ve been playing it on VASSAL using all of the books and charts and it’s worked pretty well.
