It’s Friday, and here on No Rerolls that means it’s time for an all-new 5 on Friday. We’re going to start with 5 exciting releases for this week before moving on to our usual digest of some of our favourite articles from the past week. Of course, we’re slow readers, so don’t be surprised if there are some articles that are a little older – these are just some of the great articles we happen to have actually read in the past week.
Releases & Previews
Every week there are many games, books, and miniatures released. This will probably be a mix of previews, preorders, and releases, and with release dates being the way they are in this industry, it’s always pretty approximate. Excuses out of the way, here are 5 of the releases that caught our attention this week:
Black Library releases Hive, a pair of novels by Dan Abnett – Is Dan Abnett the biggest, most respected author in the Black Library’s roster? Adrian Tchaikovsky is probably a bigger name in the wider sci-fi genre, but Abnett is probably the most celebrated author for Warhammer-specific fiction. It’s always great, therefore, to see new books from him:

This isn’t even a single book; it’s a slipcase duology. It features the Adeptus Arbites, which I like. It’s always good to see some law enforcement novels focusing on local issues, rather than following Space Marines into big battles. It’s a side of the setting that I really like.

Mongoose releases the Vehicle Catalogue for Traveller – In the same way that High Guard is the ship book for Traveller, this is the general vehicles book:

It’s full of vehicles, as one might expect. You’ve got personal, military, and commercial vehicles to fit any sort of campaign you might be running. You’ve got vehicles to fit different places and civilisations. This should not be confused with the Vehicle Handbook. All the content in this book is made from the vehicle construction rules in that one. There’s nothing here that you couldn’t make with the content in the Vehicle Handbook, but it saves you from having to.

The Army Painter to release a set of metallic Speed Paint Markers – I’ve still not tried any of these pens. I’m tempted to pick some up to try and perhaps record significant kills on the chassis of my Chaos Knights. That seems fun, and a good use for these pens.

The latest little set of pens is this metallic set. I like the metallics put out by The Army Painter. I’ve been using their metallic Speed Paints for ages, and I recently grabbed some of their Fanatic ones. I need to grab some pens to try out…

Kobold Press releases a revised edition of their Creature Codex for D&D – I love a good bestiary. This is known. Kobold do them very well, and the Creature Codex was a fantastic bestiary. Here’s a revised editon of that excellent tome:

My creature codex is sitting behind me on the shelf. I adore it. I don’t run a lot of D&D these days, but when I do, it’s pretty invaluable. This new, revised edition brings it in line with the latest edition of Dungeons & Dragons.

Leder Games taking preorders on a new Root expansion, The Homeland – Root is a perennial favourite for me. There are a few expansions for the game, and they’re pretty fun. Here’s another one:

With three factions and two maps, there’s a lot in here! The factions seem fun; I think the Twilight Council is, conceptually, my favourite. I’d love to try all three, though!

Blog Posts & Articles
The meat of 5 on Friday, the articles are listed in no particular order, so let’s get into some recommendations:
Fallout Wasteland Warfare – Some Farmer’s Fence Done @ Kuribo’s Painting – A little bit of themed terrain makes a big difference in setting the atmosphere of a miniatures game. This pig pen is a cool addition to a Fallout board. Looking good!
Shifting Matters: More TTRPG/Bicycle Comparisons @ Cannibal Halfling Gaming – Okay, so, I love this. I really like this sort of post, where we take something not really connected to tabletop gaming and try to take lessons from it that can be applied to the hobby. I do these types of post quite often, and this one really works.
Painted Rescue @ The Bovine Overlord – Another cool MCP miniature. I like the stable of Iron Man-esque characters in the Marvel stable. I like that, from this post, it seems that Rescue’s rules are very much those of a support-focused character. I don’t know enough about the game to know how this fits into list building, but I like that these roles are clearly defined as they are in MOBA-style video games.
Arta 2026 International Scale Model Show @ The Kind GM – Oh, these pictures are fantastic. I love them! There are so many fantastic miniatures and scenes. Gorgeous!
Prussians are done! @ Wargaming Workshop – The Prussians, it would seem, are done. Lovely minis. I don’t really play historicals, but it’s always great to see lovingly-painted armies. The minis look great, and they look amazing all together as a unified, uniform, force.
