5 on Friday 04/09/26

It’s Friday, and here on No Rerolls that means it’s time for an all-new 5 on Friday. We’re going to start with 5 exciting releases for this week before moving on to our usual digest of some of our favourite articles from the past week. Of course, we’re slow readers, so don’t be surprised if there are some articles that are a little older – these are just some of the great articles we happen to have actually read in the past week.

Releases & Previews

Every week there are many games, books, and miniatures released. This will probably be a mix of previews, preorders, and releases, and with release dates being the way they are in this industry, it’s always pretty approximate. Excuses out of the way, here are 5 of the releases that caught our attention this week:

Games Workshop releases a new Ork codex for Warhammer 40,000 – Orks! Orks! Orks! The lads is back! Even though this puts them in very real danger or being the victim of power creep over the course of this edition, it is cool to see the Orks take centre stage from the beginning of 11th!

The new book seems fun and strong, and the new miniatures are fantastic, if noticeably more expensive than what came before. I’ll start work on some Orks at some point. I do have a couple of Armageddon sits sitting as a starting point…

Modiphius releases the digital edition of Allies and Adversaries, a supplement for their Star Trek Adventures rolelaying game –  This 128‑page hardcover for Star Trek Adventures Second Edition is focused on giving GMs a deep bench of factions, NPCs, and creatures to drop into missions. It expands the core rulebook’s NPC guidance with clearer tools for balancing encounters and using allies effectively.

It covers major powers across Trek, such as the Borg, Cardassians, Dominion, Klingons, Romulans, Tholians, and more. There are also dozens of minor, notable, and major NPC stat blocks and rules for building original creatures.

The Army Painter to release a ‘Most Wanted’ set of Speedpaint Markers – This box is The Army Painter’s big, curated bundle of 20 Speedpaint Markers, built around fan‑favourite colours and a couple of essential metallics. It’s designed for fast, brush‑free miniature painting: shake, prime the tip, and apply Speedpaint straight from the marker..

It’s a pre‑order item with an official release date later in September. As usual for The Army Painter, it’s not actually on their website yet, but is available via some third party resellers.

Edition Spielwise to release MicroMacro Kids 2: Wild Wild Weekend – This is the next child‑friendly entry in the MicroMacro line. It keeps the big hidden‑picture map and cooperative detective play, but with 22 brand‑new, age‑appropriate cases built around simple rules and short sessions.

This sequel leans into playful mysteries, including Bigfoot sightings, missing treasure, odd arrows in hats… all solved by scanning the sprawling illustration, following clues, and tracking suspects as a team. It also adds a new “zoom in” feature for certain cases, giving kids fresh ways to explore scenes while keeping everything violence‑free and accessible.

Kobold Press releases Death on the Styx, a book of 5E adventures – Death on the Styx is Kobold Press’s new planar campaign for D&D 5E and Tales of the Valiant, sending characters from level 1 to 11 down the River Styx aboard the Silver Sphinx.

It’s built as a sequence of 10 linked adventures that can run as a full arc or slot into an existing game. The book is positioned as a flexible, worlds‑spanning anthology, of the type that Kobold Press does well.

Blog Posts & Articles

The meat of 5 on Friday, the articles are listed in no particular order, so let’s get into some recommendations:

When is enough, enough? @ Imperial Rebel Ork IRO’s latest post is a full‑table confession: thirty years of Ork collecting laid out in one 6×4 sprawl of joyful nonsense. No cohesion, no colour scheme, no plan; just the pure, feral creativity that makes his Waaagghh feel alive, from albino Boyz to vehicles with inexplicable statue faces bolted on for reasons even he can’t explain..

More Thunder! Thunderer! @ Space-Biff The writer takes a look at Thunder Road: Ignition, the budget sibling to Vendetta, and finds it surprisingly better for being smaller. The chrome is gone, the wrecks don’t stick around, and the whole thing plays leaner, faster, and funnier.

fail…upwards @ Riders of Skaith A quick, funny piece about ditching gentle affirmations in favour of failing upwards, swearing, and getting on with it.

The Huskard on Stonehorn: Big Trouble (For Your Opponent) @ Plastic Craic Plastic Craic digs into the Huskard on Stonehorn and makes the case for running one monster in a mixed Ogors list. This is not for subtlety, but for the nuisance value. It’s classic Craic: competitive honesty wrapped in gleeful brutality.

Commander Bites: Jolene the Plunder Queen @ JM Casual A break down of Jolene, the Plunder Queen, framing her as a Treasure engine with a Voltron twist. The post digs into the usual red‑green treasure makers, payoffs like Magda and Rain of Riches, and the big‑mana nonsense Jolene enables. It’s a solid mid‑bracket take.
