Bundle of Holding: Cohors Cthulhu

Bundle of Holding has launched a new bundle collecting the entire Cohors Cthulhu line from Modiphius. For anyone who’s missed it, Cohors Cthulhu is Modiphius’ take on Mythos horror in the Roman Empire. Set in 165 CE, it throws legionaries, tribal warriors, scholars, and mystics into a hidden war against cults, monsters, and the sort of ancient entities that view humanity as an interesting snack. It uses the 2d20 system, though it’s been adapted to suit the setting’s emphasis on personal reputation, heroism, and decidedly up-close combat.

The bundle’s entry tier includes the Player’s Guide and Gamemaster’s Guide, giving you the complete core game:

Now, that’s probably all that we need to get going. However, when has an RPG fan every stopped at a core book? Pay beyond the higher threshold and you’ll also pick up Laurium Adventures, the Germania Adventure Book, the GM Toolkit, and The Doom That Came to Vallis:

What appeals to me is that Cohors Cthulhu occupies a space we don’t see often enough in RPGs. Fantasy Rome is common. Lovecraftian horror is common. Historical horror in the Roman frontier, where imperial ambition, tribal resistance, and cosmic dread all collide? That’s a much rarer beast.

If you’ve enjoyed Achtung! Cthulhu or fancy something that swaps tommy guns for gladii without giving up the creeping sense of inevitable doom, this looks like a worthwhile way to explore the line. At Bundle of Holding prices, it’s certainly cheaper than raising and equipping a legion.
