Earlier this month, I shared some ideas for a new army. This was to be a goblin-themed Stormcast Eternals dragon army, wherein the dragons were to be replaced with goblin flying machines:
What can I say, I enjoy kitbashing.
I enjoy it a lot.
In all seriousness, I do really enjoy kitbashing, and I really love having an army that’s unique, and mine at the end of it. I found this really satisfying with my Maggotkin, and I’m always keen to do more of it. When south on holiday the other week, I popped into Marionville Models to pick up what I would need to get started on this army. I left with quite a box of goodies:

I think it’s safe to say that this is not a typical set of purchases with which to start a Stormcast Eternals army. Most of the kits are from Warhammer 40,000, with the exception of the Gunhauler from the Age of Sigmar Kharadron Overlords range. The kits here won’t give me everything I’ll need. It’ll let me build five of the eight models in the army. As a reminder, here’s the list I’m working towards:
Allegiance: Stormcast Eternals
– Stormhost: Tempest Lords (Stormkeep)
– Grand Strategy: Draconith Defiance
– Triumphs: Inspired
Knight-Draconis (300)
– General
Krondys, Son of Dracothion (600)
2 x Stormdrake Guard (340)*
– Drakerider’s Warblade
2 x Stormdrake Guard (340)*
– Drakerider’s Warblade
2 x Stormdrake Guard (340)*
– Drakerider’s Lance
Horrorghast (40)
*Bounty Hunters
Total: 1960 / 2000
Reinforced Units: 0 / 4
Allies: 0 / 400
Wounds: 83
Drops: 5
I daresay the list could use some adjustment, but those are the models that will feature in the army.
I started work on the kitbashes on the Monday that I got the models, working on them on and off over the next couple of days:
The first things I started working on were the Stormdrake Guard which will form the core of the army. Ultimately, I’m going to need six of them, and I’ve started on the first three:

They’re looking okay, actually! They’ve had a wee bit more work done since the pictures were taken, but not much. They need to be beaten up a bit, too. Now that I’m home, I’m bound to have stuff I can add from the ol’ bitz box.
I wanted my Knight Draconis to have the fastest-looking ship, and build a Scrapjet without the tracks:

I will add in some more bitz and pieces, and fill some gaps. I need to get a suitable pilot for the ship as well. I’ll have to see what I have for that. The seat definitely needs filled in as well, as you can definitely see where I cut away the Ork pilot.
The ship that’s the furthest from being finished is the big one, meant to represent Krondys, one the huge, named Dragons from the Stormcast Eternals battletome. The core of the ship – which is all I have so far – is made up of an Ork Dakkajet and a Necron Death Scythe:

I’m not one for subtlety. This is the Bad Moon. We like the Bad Moon on this site. This one needs a lot of work, mainly to bulk it out. I think I’ve likely got some good stuff to use. I seem to have acquired some pretty random Ork bits that may be useful.
I’m not in a huge rush to finish this, and I’ll definitely need to grab another few kits to really finish it up. Maybe another Dakkajet, a Gyrocopter, and another Gunhauler. I have another idea for a second big dragon, too. Is there really any point though, if I can’t actually use them together?
