Conversions: Flesh-Eater Courts characters

I mentioned earlier this week my intention to use some old Bretonnian miniatures to put together a wee Flesh-Eater Courts army which focuses on the idea of them being deluded and believing themselves to be untainted knights and nobles. I’ve been playing around with this idea for the past few days.

As a reminder, here’s the list I was toying with:

Allegiance: Flesh-eater Courts
– Grand Court: Hollowmourne
– Grand Strategy: Prized Sorcery
– Triumphs: Bloodthirsty

Leaders
Abhorrant Ghoul King on Royal Terrorgheist (445)
 General
Abhorrant Archregent (245)
Varghulf Courtier (160)
Crypt Haunter Courtier (115)

Battleline
6 x Crypt Horrors (220)
 Reinforced x 1
6 x Crypt Horrors (220)
 Reinforced x 1
6 x Crypt Horrors (220)
 Reinforced x 1
20 x Crypt Ghouls (170)
 Reinforced x 1

Units
3 x Crypt Flayers (180)

Total: 1975 / 2000
Reinforced Units: 4 / 4
Wounds: 139

There are four character in that list, and I’ve had a go at making all four of them. Shall we take a look?

Crypt Haunter Courtier

I feel that to make this conversion really work I need to make sure to give the Crypt Haunter Courtier an Arcane Tome. I had some fun putting this one together. Most of the army’s conversions are only really going to go as far as a head swap, but this was not practical here. So instead I had to slice off the face of this Prophetess and then apply a ghoul face over it. There’s a new sword there as well, but that’s because I accidentally snapped her one. Woops.

Varghulf Courtier

Ah, the Green Knight is such a classic mini. It was almost a pity to hack his head off and replace it with a sneering ghoul. I just need to clean him up a little more, and then find him a suitable shield.

Abhorrent Archregent

I needed a Paladin on food for this guy, but I just didn’t have anything suitable. I grabbed a 3D print to give me a good basis for the model. Once it arrived, I clipped off his hand and replaced it with the sword from the Zombie Dragon kit. I also did the obligatory headset, also adding in a hat from the Greatswords kit. The model is not quite the right scale. He’s a little bit too big. But then, he is on a 40mm base and I feel that having strange proportions will further add to the “otherness” of the army. Yeah, he’ll be fine.

Abhorrent Ghoul King on Royal Terrorgheist

The centrepiece model of the army. It’s mostly a High Elf Hippogryph from the Island of Blood set with some Bretonnian pieces thrown in. I just could not get the lance to stay in place, so I ended up pinning it and it’s now pretty damn solid. I really enjoyed putting this chap together. I particularly enjoyed working out how to make for the fact that, ultimately, the miniature was just too small for the base. This led to me using the last of my old Citadel Trees, the other two having been used on my Glottkin and my Nurgle Daemon Prince. The little resin wall was sourced from eBay to help make a nice country road feeling. This is then slightly subverted by the twisted tree and the grasping ghoul hands ominously grasping from beneath the ground…

Next Steps

This will largely be a pick-away force and I’ll do bits and pieces as the mood takes me. That said, I will be painting the Terrorgheist this month, as I will need him for an upcoming club contest. I’ll hopefully have something finished for sharing soon!
