Now, let’s take a look at what sort of progress was made in July.

July Roundup: Painting

This month, I finally made some progress on painting some minis. As with most of what I’ve painted this year, the vast majority of this month’s minis are for RPGs. Namely, three batches of these Food Fight Minis:

Overall, I’m pretty happy with how these have turned out. You can click the links below for more pics, including of the individual miniatures:

I also did one other miniature. It was this ‘splosion for an Age of Sigmar project:

Not much to say on that one. It’s pretty simple.

So, before the start of the month, our totals for the year were as follows:

  • Purchased: 76
  • Painted: 58

The deficit has been troubling! This months sees us fighting back, though! Here are the total for this month:

  • Purchased: 0
  • Painted: 13

Okay, that’s progress! Fantastic! This brings my running totals for the year to date to:

  • Purchased: 76
  • Painted: 71

We’re cosing in on being back into the positive! Next month, perhaps?

July Roundup: Gaming

The goal for this year, as with last year, is to play 30 different games. Here are the games played up to the start of this month:

  1. Magic: the Gathering (Commander)
  2. Dungeons & Dragons
  3. Viscounts of the West Kingdom
  4. Burrows & Badgers
  5. Apiary
  6. Age of Sigmar
  7. Sagrada
  8. Scout
  9. Escape the Dark Sector
  10. Isle of Skye
  11. Century: Golem Edition
  12. Escape from Tiddles Tower
  13. New York Zoo
  14. Endangered Orphans: House of Rath
  15. Arcane Academy
  16. Root
  17. Tiny Towns
  18. Terraforming Mars: Ares Expedition
  19. Black Ops: Tactical Espionage Wargaming
  20. Heat
  21. Quadropolis
  22. A Game of Thrones (2nd Ed.)

This month, I am adding a few more games to the list:

  • Dixit
  • Monster Eater
  • Fire Nation Rising

It was fun, at the start of the month, to get Dixit back to the table. I hadn’t played it for years, and we played a few rounds of it.

I was reminded that it’s a solid game that I’d love to play some more of. We played with 4 players. I think I’d rather play it with more than that, though. The game does scale really well.

A new game for this month was the Delicious In Dungeon card game, Monster Eater:

It provoked mixed feelings. On the one hand, some elements felt too easy, whilst some other aspects felt insurmountable. I’ll be doing a review of it next month, once I’ve had the chance to digest the game and, indeed, the monsters.

I had more positive feelings for another new game for July, which was Fire Nation Rising, a cooperative board game based on Avatar: The Last Airbender:

We lost our first playthrough, but that’s okay. We actually got pretty close to winning, but just didn’t quite make it before our tenth hero died. I enjoyed it, though.

Other games played in July included lots of Commander, some Endangered Orphans, Apiary, Escape the Dark Sector, Ticket to Ride, and Isle of Skye. Good times, eh?

For August, I’m planning a one-shot of Mutant: Year Zero, and and pottering away at pulling together an RPG campaign based on food.

July Roundup: Writing

This month sees another 7 new reviews added to the tally:

I don’t have any reviews queued at the moment. The buffer, slight as it was, has run down. I need to work on that. This month’s set does complete the resolution, though!

Here were my other wordier posts for July:

As an aside, I’ve also got Throwback Thursday posts scheduled up until the end of March 2027. It feels good to be ahead on those. I generally don’t have quite that big a buffer. I had a decent one for the D&D Sucks and So Do You posts, but I’m bringing that series to a end in August. I’m just a bit bored of it.
