Resolutions 2025: July Roundup

It’s one thing to set resolutions, and quite another to hold oneself to them.  I intend to review my progress monthly toward each of the resolutions.  Welcome, then, to our roundup for July 2025.  Let’s start with a reminder of where we got to last month:

Now, let’s take a look at what sort of progress was made in July.

July Roundup: Painting

This has been an alright month for painting. I started off with some Ogors. First up was a Bloodpelt Hunter, followed by a pair of Ogor Butchers:

I then turned my attention back to the army that will never be playable, the Genestealer Cults! This time it was a Locus and then a pair of Familiars:

I’m really happy with that locus. And, hey, since the orange paint is out, how about a Stargrave crew? I’m really happy with these, too:

Here were the totals from the start of July:

  • Purchased: 36
  • Painted: 89

Our totals for this month:

  • Purchased: 0
  • Painted: 17

And, through the power of addition, here are the totals for the year to date:

  • Purchased: 36
  • Painted: 106

Next up will be some Necrons, some Daemons, and some Gitz.

July Roundup: Gaming

With Commander and Lorcana featuring more heavily in my rotation at the moment, and a goal to get more miniature games played, I’ve reduced this year’s target to 30 games. Up to the beginning of May, I had played the following games this year:

  1. Magic: the Gathering
  2. Disney Lorcana
  3. Warhammer: Age of Sigmar
  4. Apiary
  5. Architects of the West Kingdom
  6. 7 Wonders
  7. Terraforming Mars: Ares Expedition
  8. Raiders of the North Sea
  9. Paranoia: The Uncooperative Board Game
  10. Unstable Unicorns
  11. Viscounts of the West Kingdom
  12. Wayfarers of the South Tigris
  13. Eclipse: Second Dawn for the Galaxy
  14. Clank! In! Space!
  15. Clank!
  16. Warhammer Quest: Blackstone Fortress
  17. Tiny Towns
  18. Isle of Skye
  19. Risk
  20. River Valley Glassworks
  21. Shipwrights of the North Sea: Redux
  22. Necromunda
  23. Call of Cthulhu
  24. Century: Golem Edition
  25. How to Save a World
  26. Scout
  27. Dungeons & Dragons

This month, I’ve added a couple of games to the list:

  1. Arcane Academy
  2. Everdell
  3. Deep Sea Adventure

I was quite surprised to find that I had not played Everdell this year. I suppose I’ve actually played a lot of it, but only on the video game version, which I don’t count. It was nice to get it back to the table.

I also played more Scout, but also tried another Pink Games game, Undersea Adventure. I am terrible at this game. I just can’t stop myself from pushing my luck too far. Everyone dies. Every time. I like the idea of this game, but if you want to enjoy it, it might be worth not inviting me. Sorry.

I also managed to play some Age of Sigmar. I got the Troggoths to the table twice. I did well against the Nighthaunt, losing no units and managing to kill off Nagash with Trugg. I then took a beating from the Fyreslayers. To be fair, running Troggs into a wall of troll slayers doesn’t, in retrospect, seem like a smart move.

Deep Sea Adventure also brought me to my target of playing 30 different games over the course of the year! Perhaps I aimed a bit low? Either way, I’m delighted with a mix of new stuff and old favourites that have made it to the table this year; and with plenty of time still left for more!

July Roundup: Writing

With my Star Wars rewatch underway, I wrote a couple of reviews for that series, along with our usual Game of the Month post. There were an additional pair of reviews, bringing the number to 5:

  1. Year of the Rabbit (TV)
  2. Star Wars: The Acolyte (TV)
  3. Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace (film)
  4. The Creative Energy Commander deck
  5. Arcane Academy (board game)

And here were my other wordier, more thoughtful posts:

I’m hoping to get some more reviews out in the coming month. I’ve got a couple more Star Wars ones written, and I’ve got another deck review done, too.
